As the growth of transgender antagonistic legislation and attitudes grow, it is harder to feel safe in the country I have called my home all my life. 43 states currently have legislation in process or passed that limits access to a full life experience for transgender people. These limits include:
- the legal allowance of discrimination against transgender people in employment, housing, and medical care;
- the removal of access to necessary medical care for transition under informed consent;
- and the effort to create transgender presentation as obscene material.
While people are fighting against these efforts, the steamroller effect sees bills pushed through super-majority conservative legislatures. As of March 7, 449 bills are pending in 41 states. We can anticipate the defeat of 2/3 of these, but it doesn't remove the stigmatization and dehumanization of transgender people that occurs along the path.
My mental health has been on a roller coaster since beginning to become aware of the growing bigotry against the transgender community. I came out publicly after I was removed from my position in a United Methodist congregation. I have only continued to see more effort to push me and my siblings back into a closet of THEIR design.
I have personally been accosted in a public restaurant. As a creator on TikTok, I experience a constant barrage of hate and invalidation. The next two years do not appear to be shaping up toward something more positive.
For these reasons, I am making plans to move to a place that would be safer for transgender people to live and move about with less fear. There are a few places that offer a safer environment as well as a comparable or better cost of living.
Due to possible protections and the intervention of a dear friend, I will be moving to Minnesota in June. THIS IS A PRESSING NEED.
I have to move out of my current apartment in May. I have a place to move into once I arrive. I am also seeking jobs in that area. But I need assistance moving and establishing residence once I move.
I am grateful to friends and family and supporters who will understand the need to protect my life and well-being.
