Genevieve's Leukemia Journey
We simply cannot express how overwhelmed we have been by all of your kindness and generosity. I will start by saying that Genevieve is unlike many other teenagers of her generation in that she is incredibly private. She was so reluctant to publicize her story, but once she gave us the green light was overcome with emotion at the support she received from every dollar and every share. While she is currently in the hospital for a minimum of 28 days prepping for a bone marrow transplant, she wanted us to extend her gratitude for your investment in her journey. Nothing about this year has been easy but you have all provided light in the darkness and the feeling that she is not in this alone, and neither is her family. We extend all of our love and gratitude to each of you and ask to continue sharing her story and keeping her in your thoughts as she goes on fighting.
On Sunday, June 21st 2020 16 year old Genevieve was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and tested positive for a Philadelphia-like chromosome mutation. When she was brought into the hospital, her white blood cell count was at a staggering 250,000. Normal is between 4,000-6,000 and anything above 50,000 is considered high risk. It was the highest the hospital had ever seen. Due to her age and white blood cell count she has been put on the most aggressive of treatment protocols. Her treatment plan is set to last at least 2.5 years, getting some form of chemo every day for that period.
Genevieve has an incredibly long road ahead of her, but we are all confident that if anyone can fight this battle, it's her. The thought alone is overwhelming. It is so crucial that we are able to focus on Genevieve and her journey to recovery and remission right now, it would be such a gift if her Mother had the financial burden lifted off of her shoulders even just a little. Genevieves treatment schedule has her going to the clinic at least 4 days a week, at times for full 8 hour days. This doesn't even include the amount of times she's been admitted for multiple night stays at the hospital to aid her recovery from the harsh symptoms of chemo and numerous infections she's had to fight, including a full appendectomy following an appendicitis diagnosis. All of this time away from work decreases Gina's income significantly but she refuses to leave her daughters side in this difficult fight.
Genevieve has always been the most selfless and thoughtful person. Even with the weight of the world on her shoulders, she continues to focus on the well-being of her loved ones. She loves The Office, practicing Art, and her beloved dog Beignet. These are the things that bring her comfort when she is feeling overwhelmed and.
This fundraiser will go towards Genevieve's medical bills and the additional costs that accompany fighting cancer. Her Mom is a single, working mother who has always done what's best for her girls. It would be impossible for her to do any of this on her own, your help would mean the absolute world to them.
