I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my friend and colleague Gene Gwyn.
Gene grew up in El Paso, Texas, graduating from Irvin High school, where he fell in love with wrestling. He attended Auburn on a wrestling scholarship, then graduated from UTEP with a BS in Education. We were fortunate enough to be benefitted from his education and expertise at the El Paso Police department, where Gene built a career as a Civil servant, climbing to the rank of commander before retiring. He continues his service calling as a warehouse manager for Goodwill industries.
Gene is a well-loved colleague and father to four children and seven grandchildren.
His passion for fitness spans six decades, and he gives back to El Paso youth through wrestling programs in the community.
Recently, he was diagnosed with late-stage Sarcoma, with a large tumor invading his entire abdomen. He is in Houston at M.D.Anderson Cancer treatment Center where his plan of care consists of several weeks of radiation, followed by surgery. This distance from expert cancer care and the need to travel from Houston to El Paso for treatment and recovery poses considerable challenges for Gene.
He and his family are thankful that a treatment regimen is available for him and rest in God's assurance that he will have a full recovery; however, the financial challenges are overwhelming.
We are asking for any assistance that you can offer to offset this burden and allow Gene and his family to concentrate on his recovery. Any donations are greatly appreciated.
