The Details of Generous Gina’s Story:
How in the world do I start to talk about my sweet Gina Norris???
Gina has been an incredibly generous person since the first day I met her in 1997. I knew right away that I would marry Gina. She quickly became my best friend and my favorite person in the world. I proposed to my sweet Gina on top of the Sunrise Ski Resort in the White Mountains in Northern Arizona in August of 1998. On March 6, 1999, we were married, and it has been my honor to be Gina’s husband for the last 22 years. We have 2 incredible twin 15 year old daughters, Hannah and Kyla. Hannah loves to dance. Kyla loves to swim. Her goal is to be in the Olympics. They both really love their mom!
On Tuesday, March 30, 2021, we found out life-changing news. Gina went into an emergency room after struggling with abdominal pain for 6 weeks. Gina, at the young age of only 48, was told that she has a rare form of cancer called a sarcoma. As of this writing, we do not have an official diagnosis as to which type of sarcoma Gina is dealing with, but I will be updating Gina’s story soon after we begin our cancer treatment with the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona.
A Dream Fulfilled: Gina grew up dreaming of being the mother of twin daughters. In time, we were blessed with the 2 coolest kids ever, Kyla and Hannah. They were both less than 4 pounds at birth and their story is also a very special one as well.
Before Gina gave birth, we were informed that Hannah was missing her Right Ventricle. Most doctors and nurses did not expect Hannah to survive birth, but she survived and thrived! In the hospital, I called Hannah the “Feisty Fighter”! That same nickname now describes Gina as she battles cancer. Gina spent the first 5 years of their lives being a doctor, nurse, and a mother to our daughters as we helped our Hannah through 4 open heart surgeries.
Gina also home-schooled Kyla and Hannah from Kindergarten until 6th grade. The countless hours of preparation and love during these 7 years of homeschooling clearly showed a generous spirit and a desire to live out Gina’s childhood dream of being a mom to twin daughters!
Occupational Therapy Impacts: Gina has also served the needs of others through her occupation. She has been a Pediatrics Occupational Therapist for about 25 years, and she has loved her patients as if they were her own kiddos. Kyla and Hannah grew up watching mom helping kids overcome health challenges. They saw her frequently prepare “meals on wheels” for other families who were going through hardship. Generous Gina now needs your help!
How Much is Needed?: This is hard for us to quantify (I am a geeky middle school Math teacher!) because we do not know for sure how long this cancer will be a part of our lives. As a result, we set the above goal at $50,000, and we will watch what God decides to do. What we do know is that there will be both a massive increase in our medical bills (and numerous other costs), plus there will be a large decrease in Gina’s income as she goes through cancer treatments. As an Occupational Therapist, Gina is an “independent contractor”. As such, she has no fixed salary, and she has no paid time off. If Gina does not work, Gina does not get paid! In addition to the medical bills, this loss of income will be our biggest reason for having this Go Fund Me page!
We look forward to what God will accomplish through Gina’s story. We will be humbled and very thankful for whatever you are able to give our family as Gina battles cancer. We are looking forward to the many lives that will be changed by the incredible story that is Gina Norris!
Asking for help from others is not easy, but it is what our family needs to do now. As you know, you do what you need to do to keep the fight going. I would like to humbly thank you for supporting my sweet Gina. I have been amazed by the incredible outpouring of love shown by many people.
This cancer news has deeply affected Kyla and Hannah. They love their mom very much and they want her to get better. That is also my hope and prayer because I deeply love my sweet Gina! Thank you for reading Generous Gina’s story, and we thank you in advance for your thoughts and prayers and for any financial assistance you can give us now.
May Gina’s story enrich your relationships with the people that you love. This story is much bigger than my sweet Gina. This is about what God will accomplish for His glory through her amazingly generous spirit.
