Rio Lindo Generator Project
Tax deductible
We are sure that most of you have heard by now, the Kincade Fire came dangerously close to Rio Lindo Adventist Academy last week. Thankfully the campus was spared and a group of staff have returned to begin working on getting the campus ready so all residents and students can return as soon as possible.
One of the things we have learned from this past month is that Rio needs reliable backup power. One of Rio’s major challenges in fire season is the continuous Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) by PG&E. Rio has continued to function through these outages during October 2019, relying on rented generators and borrowing old equipment. However, to supply enough power to keep the campus functional requires an enormous amount of extra work to maintain these old machines.
Our dream generator would be a new, reliable, at least 250kW generator in good working condition. With this generator Rio would be at full functioning capacity, even during these ongoing power outages that seem to now be a “normal” part of living in California. This means we can keep students in school, without having to send them home each time a PSPS occurs. We have 40 faculty and staff homes and apartments that are affected by the outages as well. Donations that exceed our goal of $75,000 will fund PG&E mandatory upgrades to our power system on campus.
All donations will receive a tax receipt for donating to a non-profit.
We were touched to read alumni, parents, staff, and community support of our school while we were uncertain whether we would have a school to come home to, and we thank you for your support! It means so much to know that Rio has impacted so many lives. YOU are Rio and we invite you to take part in keeping our program running. Thank you for keeping the Rio spirit alive, and we thank God for this miracle of a place that has played such a great role in many of our lives!
