Gene Carbonell's Medical Expenses

Hi! I am Staci Barfield. My entire family and I have been very close friends to the Carbonell family for years. Our boys are inseparable and we love them like family. Just recently, Rob and Alicia’s 16 year old son, Gene, an avid runner was diagnosed with an abnormal heartbeat. As a result, he was admitted to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta: Egleston Hospital. He stayed several nights in the step-down Cardiac Intensive Care Unit where he was monitored closely. He was also started on several medications to help guide his body back to a healthy status. After several days in the hospital, he was discharged home. Gene continues his new regimen of medications and ordered blood tests due to the fact his heartbeat is still abnormal. His doctors are hoping his heartbeat will revert to normal on its own. However, if it doesn’t, they will have to assist his heart with the conversion. This involves another hospital stay. Gene and his family will be meeting with his doctors often in the coming weeks. Their current insurance plan REQUIRES them to pay a $6000 deductible and will ONLY cover 50% of the total hospital costs-after the deductible has been met! This unexpected expense, along with healthcare related travel, food, office visits, lab work, and time missed from work will add up very quickly. Rob and Alicia are wonderful parents who are focused on their son’s health. Let’s help minimize the financial cost they will face! I know they will truly appreciate any donation made.
