INTRODUCTION
We are a trifecta made up of a writer, an actor, and a technician forced into quarantine together in their shared apartment. We created the Beholder Production House as a means to express ourselves and to break the monotony of the social isolation station our house had become.
Ty Wesley is our in-house writer. They bring with them long-term experience working with scripts, novels, and other formats and art forms. Sam Wharram is an award-winning technician with a long resume. Sam has worked with all levels of production and is also an accomplished actor and improviser. Miles Kehoe is an actor with a decade of experience in our community, and a strong background in leadership and communication.
Not too long ago, Ty had been pumping out script after script, Sam graduated with a technical theatre and acting diploma, and Miles was revisiting his passion for acting in plays and short films.
Enter Stage Left, The 2020 Nanaimo Fringe Festival!
In December, Ty submitted two scripts to the festival, with three in their back pocket. "Gender Sucks!" was selected out of the festival lottery to receive the Nanaimo Aboriginal Center Cultural Artist Sponsorship, and we were on our way to our dreams coming true.
Enter Stage Right, COVID 19!
CHAOS! INSANITY! TOILET PAPER! The world went wild, and everyone was affected by either social distancing, layoffs, quarantine, or sickness. Weeks and months have passed, and we are all still here, surviving and trying our best. Zoom, Skype, and Facetime have taken over classrooms, meetings, concerts. Now it is time for theatre to step into the digital realm.
As we continue to isolate and keep safe, life needs to continue in a new way, and at Beholder, we are more than excited to take the first step into this new world!
OUR GOAL
When the theatre was born as an art form, its main goals were to tell educate and to entertain, and that is what we aim to do! All of the founders of Beholder are part of the LGBT community and are proud of it. Sam and Ty are both nonbinary and Miles is a trans man. From this perspective on gender, we aim to educate the community about many issues in our society. We are all part of the battle against transphobia, homophobia, racism, misogyny, classism and ableism, and fight for a world where equity and equality are at the forefront of everything we do.
We also believe that life is about having fun. We are all on this rollercoaster together; let's all put our hands up and scream together! As children, teens, and adults, we all incorporate playing into our lives, through video games, sports, hobbies and other forms of entertainment. Our hobby is doing crazy stuff and playing pretend on a stage in front of other people! Let us be the people that entertain you through your computer screen!
TLDR; We want to make you laugh and think!
HERE'S HOW YOU CAN HELP!
We are producing this show to open for August 14th, 2020. Because of the short deadline, we are fronting the bill ourselves. We are hoping for your help in funding our show, but the show will go on regardless! The deadline for donations will be open until August 20th, 2020.
As a brand new company, we are working with very little but our experience and what we have in our closets. Unfortunately, we live in a society driven by money, and CERB can only cover so much!
While we are avidly searching far and wide to keep our costs as low as possible, we need your help! Community theatre has brought humans together for eons, and supported and told stories that deserve to be told, but the keyword is COMMUNITY. We cannot do this without you!
At the expense of sounding like we are begging, we place down our egos humbly to ask you for your money. Please give us your money. Please. We need help.
If you give us your money, we will create this show! We believe that Gender Sucks! is the show that we need to create, and you need to see.
We believe in full transparency, so we're displaying our budget below so that you know exactly what your money is going to!

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to read all this, and especially to those who chose to donate to Gender Sucks! We hope you enjoy the show!
