Genevieve realized she was trans almost 4 years ago and started hormones eighteen months later. Being trans is something that brings her deep joy, however it also can present challenges and threats from others in daily life. While Genevieve loves the joy and spiritual freedom she has found in her transition, she wants to be safe and be able to have a sense of autonomy in public spaces, especially after surviving an assault last year. Access to gender affirming surgery would greatly increase her safety, happiness and quality of life.
Genevieve has paid for her entire transition out of pocket to this point, in large part because she does not have financial support from her parents (specifically because she is trans) and cannot access health insurance to help her cover the costs of surgeries, hormones, bloodwork, and other vital healthcare. Genevieve is seeking mutual aid to help reduce the exorbitant costs of these necessary medical procedures in a for-profit healthcare system filled with cisgender gatekeepers. The total charges for her facial feminization surgery are over 17,000 dollars, and she is seeking 8,500 dollars, approximately half of the cost, to help lessen the financial strain and difficulties this will cause her over the next several years.
Genevieve is a 23-year old trans woman from Atlanta, Georgia. She loves art, food, music, and fashion. Genevieve is passionate about seeing the world in new ways and creating a more beautiful future for everybody; she wants to open a collectively owned and operated restaurant one day to help share the artistic and culinary vision of herself and others with the world. Genevieve is fundraising now for several gender affirming surgeries collectively known as facial feminization surgery that will help her move through the world more safely and confidently, hopefully helping protect her from systemic transphobia and violence trans women often face in their daily lives.
