Gender-Affirming Surgery for Ezra by December 20

Hello all! Thanks for checking out this GoFundMe for my dear friend Ezra.

If you haven’t been lucky enough to meet them yet, Ezra is a 29-year-old trans disabled person living in Chicago. They are one of the kindest and most generous humans I’ve ever met, having dedicated much of their life to fighting to make the world a better place for marginalized people. They have an unyielding moral compass and are fiercely dedicated to doing the right thing, while helping others do the same. As long as I’ve known them, I’ve never seen them turn away a person in need, showing up in more ways than I can count for both their close loved ones and, often, for people they hardly even know. That’s just who Ezra is at their core – a person who shows up and loves their community.

Now’s our chance to show up for them.

As many of you know, Ezra is scheduled to undergo multiple gender-affirming procedures on December 20. Unfortunately, with the current state of trans healthcare, their insurance may or may not cover one of their procedures, but definitely not all of them. That leaves our community to figure out how to pull together an estimated $22,000 in less than 2 months. That’s a lot of money!!!!

Ezra has wanted these surgeries for a very long time, and now it’s so close to being a reality. A few weeks ago, we got the extremely exciting news that their doctor has given them medical clearance. They also have two volunteer caregivers (me and our friend Raylinn), as well as a safe and comfortable place to stay afterward. This means literally the only thing between them and getting these surgeries is the cost. But in their current financial state, it will be many years before they’re able to afford the care they need without significant support from our community.

So we turn to you all, and ask that folks reading this give what you can and share this link directly with friends and family—especially those you know have the means to help us out.

For the sake of transparency, I want to disclose that we previously tried to raise money for these surgeries on Instagram. Ezra (and all of us) deeply appreciate all those who donated during that iteration of this fundraiser. We managed to raise $530, which obviously still leaves quite a ways to go.
