My name is Ovileya and I am a transgender woman from Bangladesh, now living in Greece as a refugee. I was forced to flee my home after surviving rape, violence, and kidnapping, as well as insults, abuse, and harassment from my family and other community members.

It was not possible for me to survive any longer in Bangladesh, but after a long struggle, I have now been recognized as a refugee in Greece, where I have been living for the past five years. In a landmark ruling, I won the right to be officially recognized as a woman. I am now able to live with more dignity, peace, and respect than was possible in the country I fledHowever, I still face harassment and hardship. Nor do I have access to the funds or work which would enable me to meet the significant costs of gender-affirming surgery myself. As such, I am asking for your support to raise €10,000 to meet the costs of this vital surgery.

I have been taking hormones for several years, and with the support of friends, I was also able to get breast augmentation surgery. Now I am raising funds for sex reassignment surgery, the key final step in my journey to finally feeling at home in my body.

Throughout my journey, I have learned that nothing can be achieved alone, only together. This surgery will help me to finally walk, work, sleep, and dance in the body that I have known was mine from a very young age. This is my dream and has been ever since I can remember.
