Genalyn and Duke Schaefer

On September 10th Genalyn Schaefer suffered from a major heart attack and was quickly rushed to the emergency room on the island of Lanai where the team of providers preformed CPR. Thanks to the hard work of the providers on Lanai she was stabilized and was flown to Maui where she is currently in the ICU.

Genalyn suffered from a major brain injury due to the lack of oxygen, and is currently in an unconscious. Her short term outlook should improve, but doctors have explained that her recovery will be measured in months, or possibly years. She is not expected to leave the hospital for the foreseeable future. She has been constantly surrounded with love from her husband Duke, children Abby and Masin, her parents Gerry and Lita, brother Boy, aunties, uncles, and friends.

Her husband Duke is a driver for UPS and this tragedy has forced him to take a leave of absence without pay for an unknown amount of time.

This tragedy will not only leave an emotional burden, but a financial burden as well. Hospital bills, lodging for Duke and her family while they care for Genalyn in Maui, bills, living expenses, unexpected costs insurance will not cover, the list goes on.

Genalyn and Duke have given so much to their community, family, and friends. Their door is always open and they give without asking for anything in return. We believe that Gen will fight through this and will not give up hope. However, they have one of the longest roads ahead of them and we ask that you consider helping if you can.
