Help Gemmi Fight Cancer
Donation protected
Gemmi is my very special Sphynx cat, whom I adopted as a breeder rehome 11 years ago. Since then she has blessed many laps, shoulders, and other body parts with her naked presence. She’s a cat with an attitude, but is also a cuddly purr-machine who has always welcomed guests, of the human and dog variety, with open paws. Gemmi has a very unique demeanor and throughout my years as a dog rescuer, has been a sort of “assess-a-cat.” She has travelled with me to homes and shelters to assess dogs’ behavior towards cats, and has helped many of our foster dogs learn to live in harmony with their feline friends.
We just recently found out that Gemmi has mammary adenocarcinoma, which is a common type of cancer in cats. Our vet has done a biopsy and spoken to an oncologist about Gemmi’s case and they feel that surgery to remove the rest of the cancerous tissue will give her the best chance at a longer life with us.
However, I have been off of work since October because of a bone infection in my spine, and my EI and savings have run out. The cost of Gemmi’s care so far has been just over $1,200, and my vet has been kind enough to let me run a tab. Our next step is to have an abdominal ultrasound, which will be approximately $600-1000, and then surgery to remove the affected tissue, which will be at least another $1,000
I know that this is a terrible time for everyone, with COVID and all, but if you have the means and could see it in your heart to help this wonderful being live a little bit longer, I would be forever grateful. I hate to ask for help, but I’m hoping that maybe I have some good karma left kicking around. ❤️
(P.S. If we raise more money than needed by Gemmi, we will donate the remainder to the Lower Mainland Humane Society.)
