Gemma Potts Community - Support Gemma's Journey

Donation protected
In June 2021, Gemma sustained a life-changing spinal injury at an equestrian event. She was taken to James Cook University Hospital where she underwent major spinal surgery. This marked the beginning of an unimaginable and difficult journey.

During her time in intensive care, Gemma showed incredible strength and determination in the fight for her life. This was a difficult and worrying time for those who knew and loved Gemma. The news that Gemma was now tetraplegic was devastating, but she continued her fight. She pushed to relearn basic functions like breathing and swallowing, all while dealing with the mental challenges that came with her injury. Through it all, she faced many dark days, but persevered with incredible courage and resilience.

As of September 2024, Gemma has moved out from residential care to be back home with her family and beloved animals. Due to her complex needs, Gemma requires 24-hour care, physical therapy, and specialist equipment. This is crucial for her ongoing recovery journey and everyday life.

About Gemma:

Gemma is a bright and intelligent young lady who was hard working and living life to the full. She studied for a degree in equine therapy and had a real passion for all things equine related. She was a groom for event riders, a brand ambassador, and an experienced horsewoman. Gemma took great pride in successfully retraining two ex-racehorses, Charlie and Chant, and excelled in numerous events and shows.

Gemma’s resilience and optimism has been truly inspiring. Despite facing unimaginable challenges, her unwavering spirit serves as a reminder of the power of hope and determination in the face of adversity.

How can you help?

It has been disheartening to realise the significant financial burden that comes with providing a decent quality of life and hope for the future for those in Gemma’s position. Our goal is to help fund ongoing physical therapy and any specialist equipment Gemma may need to aid in her recovery journey and everyday life. As such, any funds raised through this Go Fund Me will help to finance this goal. Your contribution will make a significant difference in Gemma’s life and all support is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for reading Gemma’s story and for any support you're able to offer!
