Gemma’s World - in loving memory of Gemma Berry

Hi, my name is Vicky Spellacy and I am fundraising in memory of my beloved cousin, Gemma Berry, who tragically died from heart failure on Saturday 17 May 2025 aged just 39. Wife to Steven and stepmother to Daniel (15), Harry (12) and Joseph (10), the family has been devastated by her death.

Gemma was born with a hole in her heart on 17 December 1985 and subsequently lived her whole life managing her heart condition. As a result, she underwent multiple operations throughout her short life, including full open heart surgeries, but she did so with unwavering determination and optimism. On occasion, her positive spirit would take a fair battering as the severity of her symptoms frightened her and she would try to protect her loved ones from their impact. Something which Gemma did right up until the end of her life, confiding only in her wonderful mum, Karen.

Gemma had the biggest zest for life which unfortunately her heart could not always keep pace with, but she damn well tried. She was the kindest, most caring, selfless, considerate, loyal, loving, funniest, most intelligent and beautiful human there is. Her capacity for love and joy was breathtaking. She was a ray of sunshine.

Whilst we cannot help Steven, Daniel, Harry and Joseph come to terms with the loss of Gemma, we can provide them with some financial support through this incredibly difficult time. Hopefully we can enable them to do something special in memory of this very special woman. The sort of lasting memory of her that Gemma would want them to have.
