Dan, Emilee, and their two sons, Henry (4) and Ezra (2), are a young Kansas City family struggling with unique health issues and the overwhelming financial costs associated with diagnosis and proper treatment. The burden on the family is debilitating and currently without a foreseeable end. The weight of these struggles has been heavy the last few years, and the financial toll has nearly broken this sweet family. They would DEEPLY appreciate any contribution to relieving some of the $12,000 of debt they are facing from medical expenses, as well as help them with upcoming treatments in order to reach full healing.
Emilee has faced health concerns throughout her adult life, but in the last few years things became much more severe following the pregnancy and miscarriage of their second child. Emilee experienced debilitating symptoms such as fatigue and muscle weakness so extreme she was often unable to care for and pick up her son. Nor could she drive a car safely and manage day to day responsibilities. Additional symptoms included mystery pains/aches, vision issues, rashes, swelling, numbness, and crippling digestive issues.
The Geldarts visited several doctors and the tests they performed did not reveal any clear answers about Emilee’s health and why these symptoms existed. Eventually, a generic diagnosis of “autoimmunity” was issued.
In addition to this, Henry (4 years old) has struggled with severe digestive problems since he was born and has a high level of sensory issues/neurotransmitter imbalances that have hindered normal development. He struggles with being highly anxious, aggressive, and overwhelmed. 2-year-old Ezra is following in his brother's footsteps, having to be treated for many digestive issues of his own at a young age.
Over time, the family ended up seeing an integrative specialist who was able to identify problems and offer solutions by using more in-depth testing than any of the other specialists. For the past 3.5 years, they have been on a journey of getting Emilee’s body working correctly (even with a wonderful pregnancy during that time), and putting Henry and Ezra on track for proper development.
In the last six months, Emilee has been working through a rigorous protocol of intravenous therapies that have been effective in killing the virus her body has been fighting most of her life, yet only recently revealed. Research has linked this virus to cancers, MS, and other diseases and it is an incredible relief to finally see progress and begin having some days of normal functioning again. Strong infections and inflammation were found in Henry’s little body that are fully treatable. Thankfully, he has made SO much progress lately, but continued tests and medications will still need to be done for his treatment to continue.
The problem is their insurance covers none of these integrative therapies. The Geldarts have already exhausted their insurance-covered options to investigate and diagnose the health issues. Treatment payments have been coming out of their pocket for years now and will continue to do so.
Dan works a full-time job, and part-time jobs when possible. Emilee has been unable to work outside the home, being barely able to physically handle the demanding work of being a mom. They've already sold valuable possessions, they've refinanced their home to cash out their equity, and they live in a tiny two-bedroom house for their family of four.
As friends who love these four immensely, we'd love to help them lessen their debt load as well as provide finances for the ongoing treatment of these long-term health issues. Even though much progress has been made with their current treatment, they are at a point where there is significant debt and they've exhausted all finances to continue. We'd love to see them be able to heal completely!
