Ik ben Simone Grunewald, de moeder van Kaya en ik heb deze crowdfunding voor mijn dochter opgestart omdat ik niet wil dat zij dag na dag in rap tempo haar zelfstandigheid moet inleveren als dit zo doorgaat...

Kaya heeft vanaf 2018 een scootmobiel vanwege ernstige skeletdysplasie en meerdere vormen van reuma in o.a. haar handen. De scootmobiel gaf haar een enorme vrijheid waardoor zij zelfstandig overal naartoe kon en de wereld aan haar voeten lag....

En toen kwam het nieuws dat alles veranderde. Enkele weken geleden kreeg zij van haar reumatoloog te horen dat zij geen scootmobiel meer mag gebruiken. Het gebruik hiervan heeft ervoor gezorgd dat haar handfunctie extreem snel achteruit is gegaan. Deze achteruitgang is onomkeerbaar. Elke rit die zij nu nog maakt, al is het een paar meter, versnelt de achteruitgang.

Op dat moment stortte haar wereld in. En die van mij als moeder ook. Aangezien wij niet willen dat deze achteruitgang in dit razendsnelle tempo doorzet is het noodzakelijk dat er zo snel mogelijk een aangepast vervoersmiddel komt. Alleen vergoed de gemeente (waaronder de WMO) dit vervoersmiddel niet. Zelf hebben wij ook niet de financiële middelen om dit te bekostigen.

Als dit aangepaste vervoersmiddel er niet komt zal Kaya in een sociaal isolement komen. Haar wereld zal zich binnen gaan afspelen en haar zelfstandigheid zal ze voor het grootste deel verliezen.

Ondanks al haar fysieke uitdagingen haalt zij alles uit het leven om zich in te zetten voor een ander, qua werk en in haar vrije tijd! Haar grote hart heeft deze beperking niet en wil door met waar zij goed in is, waar ze voldoening uit haalt en wat haar energie geeft!

Ik zou het erg waarderen als u dit bericht deelt met uw vrienden/netwerk of een donatie doet, klein of groot, alles brengt Kaya dichterbij vrijheid.

Ik vraag u/jou mij te helpen dit te delen of te doneren om Kaya's wereld groot te houden door zich met de For Motion Dike weer te kunnen gaan verplaatsen!

De enige oplossing is een For Motion Dike. Deze scootmobiel is met de voetpedalen te bedienen, waardoor ze haar handen alleen maar hoeft te gebruiken om te sturen. Dit specifieke merk kan alle noodzakelijke aanpassingen doen, nu en ook in de toekomst.

Kaya heeft zich de laatste jaren zelf erg ingezet door allerlei acties op te zetten om andere mensen te helpen en voor andere mensen op te komen door heel Nederland waarvoor zij vele kilometers aflegt en dit wil ze graag verder voortzetten. Dit is haar passie. Het geeft haar energie om iets voor anderen te betekenen en zij laat zich hiermee niet tegenhouden door alle pijn en vermoeidheid van de vormen van reuma en verminderde handfunctie, maar nu lijkt het er op dat zij geen andere optie heeft aangezien zij niet meer met de scootmobiel mag rijden. Het is toch voor ieder mens een groot goed om zich vrij in de buitenwereld te kunnen begeven en en te genieten van het leven i.p.v. achter de geraniums te gaan zitten omdat jouw vervoersmiddel de klachten verergerd? Zeker als je 27 jaar oud bent! Iemand die zich zo voor anderen inzet verdiend het om zelf ook geholpen te worden zeker als dit aangepaste vervoersmiddel de enige noodzakelijke oplossing is.

I am Simone Grünewald the mother of Kaya, and I am starting this crowdfunding campaign because I cannot bear to watch my 27 years old daughter lose her independence more and more with each passing day if nothing changes…

Since 2018 Kaya has depended on a mobility scooter due to severe skeletal dysplasia and multiple forms of rheumatism, mostly impacting her hand function. That mobility scooter gave her freedom. It allowed her to go wherever she wanted, independently — the world was open for her to go everywhere….

A few weeks ago, her rheumatologist delivered devastating news: she is no longer allowed to use a mobility scooter. The constant use has caused her hand function to deteriorate at an alarming rate. This damage is irreversible. Every single ride accelerates the decline. The conclusion was clear and heartbreaking: she must stop immediately.

In that moment Kaya’s world shattered. And so did mine.

We simply do not have the financial means to pay for an adapted mobility solution ourselves.

Without a different mobility scooter Kaya's world will shrink to the walls of her home.

She will lose most of her independence — not because she wants to, but because she has no other choice because otherwise she will soon not be able to use her hands for anything anymore.

And yet, despite everything her body puts her through Kaya continues to give. She gives her time, her energy, and her heart to help others — in her work and even more in her free time.

Her body may be limited, but her heart is not. She wants nothing more than to continue doing what she loves, what gives her purpose, and what gives her strength.

The only solution is a For Motion Dike.

This specially adapted mobility scooter is operated with foot pedals, meaning her hands are only needed for steering. This prevents further damage to her hands. This brand can continue to adapt the vehicle as her needs change — now and in the future.

Over the past years Kaya has organized countless initiatives big and small to help others and to stand up for people who need it all across the Netherlands. She travels many kilometers to do so. This is not just something she does — it is who she is. Helping others gives her energy and meaning, even while she lives with constant pain, exhaustion, and declining hand function.

But now, for the first time, she is being forced to stop — simply because she is no longer allowed to ride her scooter because her hands will be unable to use forever if she will continue using it.

Isn’t it a basic human right to be able to move freely in the outside world?

To live life, instead of watching it pass by from behind a window?

Especially when you are only 27 years old.

Someone who has given so much of herself to others deserves help when she needs it most — especially when this is the only way for her to keep her freedom.

Additional information

We searched everywhere for a suitable mobility scooter or electric wheelchair. This vehicle was the only option that truly meets Kaya's needs. The For Motion Dike is officially classified as a mobility scooter/vehicle for people with disabilities.

Unfortunately, both the municipality (WMO) and the health insurance provider have told us they cannot help. It is impossible for Kaya to afford this vehicle herself — yet it is essential for her to reclaim and protect her independence.

That is why I started this crowdfunding campaign.
