The house of the Lord is a sacred place of worship where the faithful come together to honor him, to praise him, and to receive his forgiveness and mercy. The true believers of God are entrusted to build a church in his name where they can worship him in accordance with his teaching and serve him selflessly.
Hence, all brothers and sisters shall come and live together in harmony and fulfill his will to love one another. “Behold, how good and how pleasant [it is] for brethren to dwell together in unity!” Psalms 133:1.
We, the servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, shall rise in his goodness and we shall work together in harmony, and God shall always make it possible for us to achieve our goals.
The devoted members of Abune Gebre Menfes Kudus Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church in Boston, Massachusetts, and its surroundings, keenly understood the need to come together and build their own church. In 2004, with limited devoted members, established their church and started serving Sunday mass by renting a space in the basement of our sister Saint Mary Catholic Church, located at 5 Linden Place, Brookline MA 02445.
As the membership grew, albeit slowly, the faithful members of Abune Gebre Menfes Kudus nominated and tasked noble members of the church to purchase land and at the same time raised funds to acquire it. As Eritrean-American immigrants with limited resources but with an abundance of blessings from our Lord Jesus Christ, the devoted members spent eight years building their church in Boston Massachusetts. Through the grace of God, and an exemplary act of kindness of so many members, the board of directors, and the unsurpassed leadership of Father Fitiwi Berhane, the construction of Abune Gebre Menfes Kudus is complete.
To build this magnificent house of the lord, the members of the church spent, in total, about $1,244,168.00. The devoted members raised about $744,168.00 within themselves and had to borrow $500,000.00 from a bank to cover the remaining cost
At this juncture, Abune Gebre Menfes Kudus Tewahedo Orthodox Church finds itself in a better position to spread the sacred word of God in accordance with the ancient traditions and customs of the Orthodox Church teaching during Sunday mass at 7:00 AM, and also via zoom calls at 8:00 PM during weekdays.
Furthermore, the church is actively involved in offering its youth with rich bible study, and Tigrigna, an Eritrean language, lessons to ensure the young understand the sacred liturgical scripture of the Eritrean Tewahedo Church. The church is in the process of setting up classes in the basement where the church’s youth ministry will carry out its mission of nurturing our youth, enriching their spiritual journey, and preparing them to become outstanding and productive members of society.
As stated above, the main and the only source of income for Abune Gebre Menfes Kudus of Boston is from its limited members. Hence, the remaining bank loan of $500,000.00 is something of great concern to the faithful and board of directors.
Therefore, the house of Lord is asking for a kind financial contribution from you, the faithful, to ease this financial burden off the members. Please be part of this magnificent and beautiful church and help to SAVE and preserve it. As the good book teaches us that “it is more blessed to give than to receive”, and in the spirit of his teaching, please do your part and contribute.
