Ashshita's Kitchen Of Hope

Ashshita’s Kitchen Of Hope. As many of you know, years ago I tragically and suddenly lost my best friend Ashshita Hossain. Ashshita was a compassionate and caring individual. She believed that people of all backgrounds and socioeconomic status deserved to eat good food. Ashshita was able to bring people together through her love and knowledge in creating healthy and sustainable meals for all. Ashshita broke barriers as a woman of colour in the culinary industry. Winning awards and being invited to cook with famous chefs. Yet, she also humbly made sure that every month she would cook for the homeless, and women and children in the shelter system. I am now asking those of you who loved and knew her, to help me keep her memory alive in the place she loved the most - The Kitchen! I am pleased to announce that the Grace Orphanage and Children's Center in Tanzania will be building a kitchen in memory of Ashshita. The Grace Orphanage is 100% volunteer run. We rely on donations to keep the center open and the children healthy. In its two years of operation the children of this center have been faced with a terrible food shortage. The Orphanage does not have a kitchen. This means that the children cannot prepare or store any food. They have one hot meal a day that is out sourced and expensive. A kitchen for the orphanage means so much more than just a building. Creating the building is the first step. Being able to fill the kitchen with locally sourced healthy foods will help in fighting malnutrition that all of these children are facing. Currently the food they are eating is limited by content and quality. Having a kitchen of their own will enable them to learn how to prepare healthy meals, understand how to nourish their bodies with good food, learn the basics of food science, and of course have fun! We need help building this kitchen. Because of COVID-19 many of our local and international donors have had to withdraw their donations and promise for support. Meaning that few volunteers have been attempting to keep the orphanage running out of our own pocket. The kitchen will cost $3,000 USD to build. The kitchen will need a clean water supply, electricity, and equipment. Our fundraising goal is $7,500. With the remainder of the money going into paying for these children to attend school for one year and purchasing health insurance for one year. Please help us in being a part of creating a better life for the world's most vulnerable population, our children. www.graceorphanageandchildrencenter.com
