Hi my name is Michelle and I have worked since I was 13. I never was without a job, so this is extremely hard for me to ask for money. I don’t know what else to do. In Jan. Of 2023 I took a blood test because I was feeling very tired and sick a lot. My doctor said that my iron levels red blood cell count was very low and he wanted to start me on some blood transfusions. I went for my first one in February of 2023, it was scary because I never had anything like this before. In late February I was told I needed another one so beginning of March I had another one. It did help but it was short lived. I needed to go back to Dr. I see if I should get another or what I should do? I had an appointment in beginning of April. On March 30 I was told the company was closing and I would be out of job. I had worked for the same person for over 20 years and been in the same business for over 30 years. You could imagine what a blow this was to me…. I knew business wasn’t great, but I thought we were going to try and do more purchases or something else, not close. I had one day to get my stuff and leave. My insurance cancelled April 1st. I didn’t get a month it was all just gone in a day. I had a 10 year old and a house that I bought through my company a year before and a new car. I was frantically looking for a job and there was nothing…. I ended up using all my savings and withdrew everything from my 401k just to pay my medical bills and all my house expenses. My medications were over 800 a month. I am a diabetic and I have blood issues… By May my best friend got me a job driving the Amish. I love driving them, they are just some of the nicest people I have ever met. The problem was I was putting so much wear and tear on my car and I wasn’t making enough. I drove over 30,000 miles in 3 months…. I still continued to drive and look for jobs when I could. I sometimes drove from 630am in morning until 9 pm at night. This barely covered food and my car and insurance. In November I woke up and tried to step out of bed and fell to floor. My 11 year old son came in room and said what is wrong. I said I don’t know but I can’t walk and I was having uncontrollable movements. He was so scared and so was I. I went to the emergency room. I found out I had 3 strokes. I was having like seizures for 5 days. I was there for 9 days then went to rehab center for over a month. I am still getting therapy at home 4 days a week and I have a nurse that comes and helps me with all the pills I’m on now. I finally got approved for Medicaid in December of 2023. I wasn’t even home for Christmas which was very hard for my son. I have a wonderful family, I have 4 children and I’m blessed to have both my parents and two sisters, but they can only help so much. I have a car and mortgage payment that I need help with. Doctors say it’s going to be a while before I can walk without a walker or for the numbness to get better… I’m in pain everyday and I work with therapy every day but it’s going to be a long road, I applied for disability insurance but that takes 6-12 months. This is my last hope to pay all my medical expenses from April through December and save my house and car. My mortgage company and my car company have already given me deferred payments due to me being laid off and then another 3 months when I had my stroke so I have till end of February to make my car payment and end of March for my mortgage.
