Karen's story:
What kind of 50th birthday was it? One with a breast cancer diagnosis for an incredibly optimistic, vivacious, energetic and otherwise healthy, happy mother of two fabulous teenagers. Not an uncommon story these days.
Enduring a modified radical mastectomy followed by 5 months of chemo, our dear and beloved friend Karen Adkison was told she had a clean bill of health in late 2008. Sadly, in October 2014, after 6 years of blissful remission, Karen's cancer was found to have spread to her breastbone, quickly becoming Stage 4 metastatic disease.
Recently engaged to be married, this most wonderful, funny, smart and positive person that any of us could ask to be blessed with in our lives now needs our help. If the diagnosis isn't bad enough, the medical bills have mounted for tests, radiation, additional chemo and expensive lifelong medications she will need. One part of her monthly regimen costs $3,200. And that's just one part. Insurance will help, but only after a huge out-of-pocket deductible is paid first.
Please help us raise $25,000 for Karen's medical expenses by contributing what you can; $10, $25, $50, $100, any amount will help. Just think: That $3.50 you may be spending daily on coffee or $7+ on your happy hour beverages could go towards saving Karen's life instead! $3.50 per work day adds up to $70 a month!
Karen raised $6,000 in the past for breast cancer research. She rode across America on a tandem bicycle to raise awareness. She's a volunteer board member for a blindness rehabilitation center helping people with disabilities find jobs. Let's make sure we can continue to see Karen frolic and amaze us on the dance floor for many years to come!
This is much different than considering donations for school events or little league. This is helping to save the life of one of the best, most caring and thoughtful women we know.
