Martina's Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
Hey everyone, as most of you know my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer in January of this year. In March, she had surgery to remove the tumor and approximately half of her colon. Once, she was healed from the surgery she began an aggressive chemotherapy regime which would be given to her every other week from Tuesday to Thursday. She would sit in the office for 4-5 hours on Tuesday, and be sent home with a drip for the next 46 hours continuing to give her one of the chemotherapy medications until Thursday when she goes back to the office to be disconnected. The following week for her is quite literally hell on earth for her. She is so nauseous and light-headed she cannot open her eyes and is very fatigued. Given these symptoms, she was unable to work the week after, but that was okay while she was covered under FMLA. Her FMLA ended on May 31st. Her HR contacted her to see if she would be able to return to work full-time, and her answer was no. They then suggested termination, because if she was terminated due to medical reasons, she would then be allowed to be rehired once her treatments were finished. Although, Mom asked if she could speak with her oncologist first to see if the regime could be changed in some way to allow her to not have such awful side effects. When this question was asked, the HR responded with it would be better to be terminated over medical reasons, rather than try to work and miss due to being ill, doctor's appointments, or treatments, which would then result in termination due to attendance. If she was terminated due to attendance she would not be eligible for rehire. This wasn't the best news, but she could make it if she could get unemployment. Now unemployment will not approve her claim because she hasn't made over a certain amount of money this year. With all of this, she has also lost her insurance which has all the deductibles met for the year. Therefore, she is now using COBRA insurance. My mom is struggling and she would never want anyone to know how bad. I wasn't sure what else to do so I figured I'd reach out to all the people who know and love her. Anything helps, but especially prayers. We're on the homestretch we just need help getting through her treatments. Then hopefully she will be able to return to work. Please know whatever you give whether monetarily or through prayers will always mean more than words could say. Thank you!!
