My name is Kim DeFranza and my family and I adopted a sweet 15-month pup from a rescue named Penny in Jan of 2025. We were told she was in good health and heartworm negative.

We found out 6 weeks later she had an intestinal infection, which we took care of. She is full of energy and joy to our home. Almost 3 months later, she began having seizures. Her blood work showed extremely high liver enzymes and heartworm. We got a sonogram, X-rays, and more blood work, but nothing showed up for her liver. We had her on 2 meds for two months and just found out her levels are now back to normal, so we can begin to start to treat her heartworm.

We are now asking for help to be able to treat her and give her the life she deserves. It's a one-year treatment plan. My kids are so worried they will lose another pup (put to sleep due to cancer) in a year.
