Supporting the Steenwyks

Hello, everyone! I am creating this fundraiser to support my wonderful parents, specifically my mom, who has lovingly taken on the responsibility as full-time caretaker for my dad.

 

Early last year we found out that Daniel, my dad, is fighting his second brain tumor. When I was around 9 years old, we all came together as a family to support my dad’s first surgery and radiation treatments, which relocated us to Pennsylvania for 2 months. We beat the odds and had the next 11 years with no regrowth. Thankfully, this tumor was non-cancerous, and I was lucky enough to grow up with a dad. Then, last January, we found out that he had a new tumor, this time cancerous, and that there were no chances of survival. Initially, we were given up to a year to be with my dad, however, we are so grateful to have had almost a year and a half with him.

 

My amazing nurse mom, Ruth, spends all of her time making sure that he is comfortable and happy now that he is unable to provide for himself. She is unable to work until after his passing, due to the constant care he needs, and I want to help her by raising some extra funds in support.   This will help with equipment costs as we get a hospital bed for my dad and some other things mom needs to care for him.  My mom is the most kind and patient soul I know, and she takes far better care of my dad than I could ask for.

 

This fundraiser will also help as we plan to move to an apartment together in Kansas City, Missouri while I go to graduate school. We want to be together as much as possible while processing the past year and a half. My parents are the loves of my life, and while I can’t do a lot for them right now, this is something I hope will help just enough! I hope to surprise my mom with this GoFundMe and to show her all the love and support out there.
