In 2018, the GCVI Chamber Choir won the opportunity of a lifetime via a radio contest to sing on stage with best selling rock band Foreigner at their concert in Centre in the Square in Kitchener, Ontario. The band was gracious enough to give us $500 towards our music program for our performance with them. We were ecstatic to receive news that we have been welcomed back by the band to sing "I Want to Know What Love Is" for their concert on September 3, 2019 at Centre in the Square in Kitchener. We truly are experiencing "double vision" (get it?).
As a teacher, I was very humbled when my students suggested we raise money for the Shriners Hospital for Children in Montreal (via Shriners Guelph) as a "pay it forward" gesture to thank the band and to help the children receiving care at this irreplaceable institution. We have raised some money via community concerts and donations at our school concerts, but we are hoping this gofundme page reaches a wider audience who appreciates music education being used to support this very worthy cause:
"Located in Montreal since 1925, Shriners Hospitals for Children — Canada is a bilingual, acute care center providing orthopaedic specialty care for complex or chronic disorders, such as osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease), severe spinal and limb anomalies, reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation. Children from across Canada, the U.S. and around the world have benefited from the Canada Shriners Hospital’s groundbreaking research and innovative treatments, both in Montreal and in their own communities."
The GCVI Chamber Choir would like to thank you for your consideration and support, and we hope to see you at Centre in the Square on September 3 where we will be celebrating our efforts for this campaign!
