GCU CHEERLEADING STRAVA CHALLENGE 2025

Donation protected
Every year, the GCU (Glasgow Caledonian University) Wolves Cheerleading team organises a Strava fundraiser to support both our club and a charity of our choice. This year, we’ve selected The Eilidh Brown Memorial Fund as our charity. Our 14 committee members will be competing against the rest of the club to see which group can collectively walk and/or run the most miles throughout January!⭐️
Last year we walked 2,043 miles and raised £1115, so this year we are setting the initial targets of 2,000 miles and £1,000!
Due to the significant increase in the cost of living across the UK, running our club has become more expensive than ever before, making fundraising more essential than it has been in previous years. With over 100 members this season, we are committed to ensuring that every member has access to the same opportunities, free from financial barriers or concerns. As such, a portion of the funds raised will go towards reducing competition and performance fees, covering the cost of uniforms, travel, and accommodation, as well as investing in the equipment and facilities used for training.
A portion of the money raised will be going to our chosen charity of choice this year, The Eilidh Brown Memorial Fund. Eilidh was a young girl who suffered from cancer at the young age of 14 in 2009. Eilidh had gone through several surgeries to remove various tumours as well as countless hours of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, sadly Eilidh passed away after a 14 month battle with the disease just 9 days short of her 16th birthday.

The effect of cancer can have a substantial effect on families so Eilidh’s dream was to create something to help out other families going through a similar thing and to make sure Eilidh’s legacy would continue. Eilidh’s family built a stunning countryside respite holiday home in the Stirling area for young people and their families who are going through, went through or sadly lost a child to cancer. The money we raise will assist in keeping her memory alive as well as helping other families in similar situations.
We are truly grateful to everyone who takes the time to generously donate, no matter the amount, and to those who have shared our fundraiser. Your support means the world to us! To stay updated on our progress, feel free to follow us throughout the month on Instagram: @gcuwolvescheerleading
