Riley's Medical Fund

Hello everyone, my name is Taylor and I am the Aunt of two wonderful children, Peyton, a fun-loving, outgoing 4-year-old, and Riley Joan, a beautiful baby girl. Riley is your typical two-year-old—loving, funny, spunky, beautiful, and a handful!  My sister and her husband have been dealing with a lot the past few years with Riley and life in general.
When my sister was pregnant with Riley, my mother passed away creating a world of stress for our entire family, but especially for my sister. Riley tried making her debut into this world at 21 weeks gestation. My sister was put on bedrest until Riley was born on November 29, 2014.  She was seven weeks early. Riley spent the first 15 days of her life in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) at North Suburban Medical Center. She finally got to come home two weeks before Christmas. She seemed to be a healthy little peanut, until February 2015 when she was hospitalized for the first time with RSV (Respiratory syncytial virus). She spent 11 days in the NICU at Children's Hospital.
She spent all of 2015 in and out of the NICU and PICU (pediatric intensive care unit) at Children's Hospital in Aurora, CO. We thought she had outgrown these hospitalizations, but unfortunately,  we were wrong. She has been hospitalized ten times since February 2015, which seems to be an ongoing process. She has ridden in eight ambulances. The latest hospitalization was February 25, 2017 for Bacterial Pneumonia. She was there for five days where she spent more time in the PICU.

Each hospitalization results in at least one parent missing work while the other tries to keep home somewhat stable for Peyton.  After this last discharge, the doctors advised my sister that they would need to make significant changes to their home to help keep Riley healthy. She had to tear up the carpet and redo the floors to help rid their home of allergens. They had to replace mattresses, throw away stuffed animals, and purchase leather furniture. Despite all their efforts, Riley has come down with another illness.

Riley is a strong little girl, but she and her family are going through some very difficult times. She is currently being followed by the AeroDigestive Clinic at Children's Hospital of Colorado. She was diagnosed with Chronic Lung Disease, Reactive Airway disease, asthma and Tracheomalaysia. She is followed by Cardiology for a heart murmur. She is having a Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy in April. She is being followed by Audiology for hearing loss in her left ear. She is being followed by Gastrointestinal. She is now also having many other issues with other organs in her body. Each health episode brings another round of tests, procedures, diagnoses, and stress for the entire family.

We have a close-knit strong family, but all this has come at a high cost emotionally, physically, and financially.  I hope that with some financial assistance, my sister’s family can focus more time on health and healing in their home.  Any support is greatly appreciated.
