On November 2nd, 2018 life changed forever for sisters Rhoda (then 11) and Priscilla (8). Their mother, Meghan Liddy, suddenly passed away at the young age of 25 years old. For the past 4 years Meghan had been living in Ghana and fostering Rhoda and Priscilla. Meghan had been working with her lawyer to finalize their adoption in the coming year.
This was not the first time Rhoda and Priscilla had faced loss or adversity, having lost their biological parents prior to coming to live with Meghan. Luckily for the girls, Meghan instilled fierceness and resiliency in them during those formative years that has seen them through a difficult time in their lives.
Since Meghan’s passing in November 2018, a community of Meghan’s friends in Ghana has cared for Rhoda and Priscilla. Every individual in this group was touched in some way by Meghan’s spirit and love for her daughters. We have been working to find the girls a new family and support their educational goals in the interim. Luckily, a lovely new family found us and Rhoda and Priscilla have begun the next chapter in their journey.
As we approach the one year anniversary of Meghan's death, we created this fundraiser to help support the girls and their new family. Examples of how funds will be used include: completion of their family home to accommodate the two newest siblings, help covering costs of daily living, payment for school fees, and creation of a college/business fund for the girls when they reach adulthood. Rhoda hopes to become a doctor or scientist, while Priscilla aspires to be a teacher or doctor. The girls have been working diligently with tutoring and have made significant improvements in math, reading and writing despite the upheaval of losing their mother and brother just days apart, and then moving both home and school. The girls understand what has happened and miss Meghan dearly, recalling favorite memories almost everyday. During the 9 month transition period from losing Meghan to moving into their new home, they have graced us with humour and maturity far beyond their years (despite the occasional tantrum!)
Please consider giving some support for these deserving and wonderful girls as they start on their new path with their new family! Those of us who have been caring for them this past year are amazed at their strength, wit and zest for life! We are excited to support them as they grow into the amazing women Meghan was raising them to be. We hope you will join us on this journey!
