Hi! My name’s Tate, I’m 24 and finally brave enough to start taking steps toward top surgery.

I’m a trans man, living in London and currently working in hospitality, my goal is currently set at £5000 in order to help with surgery costs (along with what I am saving), support the current costs of my gender affirming care (HRT, appointments, clinic costs), and provide living support for when I am recovering from surgery.

As someone who knew they were trans from as soon as they could choose their own clothes, you would think HRT and surgery would be an obvious choice. However, as a young teen I did not think transitioning or being open about my gender would ever be possible for me. Therefore, the first 22 years of my life I spent looking and acting like a cis, straight woman.

It took for me to see representation of what I felt like inside, to understand my feelings were real, and weren’t going anywhere. I have spent the last 2 years affirming my gender, and becoming who I am meant to be. This has included coming out (many times haha), changing my name, finding community, exploring my sexuality, educating myself and those around me, and eventually starting HRT.

For a while now the next logical step has been top surgery. And it is not a decision I have taken lightly. Although deep down in my heart I’ve known it is something I need, I have had a lot to contemplate. And now I am finally ready to start taking the first steps to having the chest of my dreams (and for taking mega sexy topless pics).

I have come to the understanding that this surgery is necessary for me to go on with every day life. Because of my chest, I struggle with leaving the house, getting dressed, being at work, going to the gym, being intimate with my partner, etc etc. it really does impact most parts of my day to day life, and this is not something I can live with forever.
