Sept 2026 (updated) Hi . Its been a while on this very old fundraiser, ill apologise now for any duplicates you may recieve.

Right now, after founding of the facebook group for all these years I am fighting to keep it going. Its now been made worse after rushing around 20 hours a day to help rescue/house/transfer/rehab endless casualties. disruptions were aplenty this year. Help hasn't come from the areas I once relied upon, just too many demanding people who have no idea what wildlife rescue means and the costs that go into doing this.... and who never do anything to acknowledge or support. Ironically, most who have supported have not once (or rarely) asked for help with a casualty!!! Very bizarre, but appreciated, of course for which many thanks !!

This is UNPAID full time volunteer work and it is failing due to little or no help.

The season so far... Recently, through my own stupidity, a whats app group which lends itself more towards chatting rather than actual rescues got me caught by the police for holding my phone while driving (to check what was probably a non rescue) . So it's 6 points on my licence and a fine. On top, a burst pipe, thankfully outside my house, left water running and a huge water bill is coming my way in the autumn. All this for saving birds most can't be bothered to save !!! a car accident at the end or August has led to a rebuild of the front of my car. no, it is not ideal at all. !!!

AGAIN, Volunteers who were all over the Idea of helping when first contacted in the winter let me down by the time summer came and dropped out. Some help came, as have more troublemakers..... To date, over 60 people trying to join the facebook group (below) have been turned away by me personally... resulting in the absolute opposite of why I founded this group 8 years ago in the first place. Add to that, endless infighting within the group I started, too many people thinking I can magic up funds to run around after them, inc going up ladders (falling off one) in temps over 35 degrees. The few who are doing this are being taken full advantage of. ive seen the worst in human nature, but then the best in others who are genuinely overjoyed when someone turns up... eventually! the lowest number of chicks this summer were recorded. many were left. Other walkouts from other groups have also been recorded. There is little left to help these birds

In the past funds raised have either gone to sites who have taken the birds, or to support others who are experiencing things worse than here in Sussex. I know its been really appreciated. However, now it's about me. I'm done hearing about festivals I could be going to, bbqs on the beach or people's annual August holidays. I've gone without a life for too long, incurred more debts doing this summer after summer, have not once been able to think about working and dealing with a whole array posts on Facebook. Thankfully I can rehab a lot myself as I cannot work with more local sites anymore. Taking birds in is definitely what I like to do but the costs are large. Running around after every facebook post won't happen next year. Until I get back out of this hell this season has bestowed upon me, I'm raising for me and those left in our group. After that, those sites I believe in. These are in both the UK and abroad. we'll see if there is any surplus. With almost no volunteers and sites closing up and down the UK, next year doesn't bear thinking about. So many needing help, so few getting it. If you can help, please, it's desperately needed before everything goes and NO ONE gets help going forward.

Thank you
