I will keep this short. There is no sugarcoating what’s happening in Gaza. Homes have been destroyed, families have been separated, and lives have been lost. I am sure you have seen the countless pleas from anyone affected by this tragedy to help get their family out of this mess. I am no different. My aunt, Nima and cousins, Enas, and Karama have been able to flee into Egypt before Israel’s latest aggression, they are however considered “illegals” in Egypt and are unable to work and live a normal life. I am therefore looking to bring them as refugees to Canada and am working with an Ottawa-based private refugee sponsorship organization that would organize their resettlement in Ottawa. The sponsorship agreement requires that refugees be supported in their first year of resettlement. This includes providing financial support to cover the cost of food, shelter, transportation, and medical needs.

Canada has capped the amount of Palestinians allowed visas to Canada to 1000 individuals. Of those 1000 only a dozen have been able to arrive and settle so far. This is why I have had to work with a private sponsorship organization.

My cousins are educated and hard-working and want to contribute to the community they will be a part of. They are also deserving of a safe and stable life. Like most of us, I do not have this kind of money in my bank account. I am humbly asking you to consider donating what you can to help us reach our goal.

Due to the unpredictable selection process and the cap imposed by the GoC on how many refugees allowed in Canada, in the event that Nima, Enas and Karama are not selected to immigrate to Canada, any money collected with this fundraiser will go towards supporting their livelihood in Egypt and towards other Palestinians still suffering in Gaza.
