Gaza at War: A Nurse's Urgent Request for Support
Donation protected
I am Tawfeek Jebreel, a nurse at Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza. During the recent war, a nightmare unfolded. While treating countless wounded in the face of an invasion, I was separated from my wife, Nisreen, and our young children, Hassan and Leah.
The images of suffering I witnessed are forever etched in my mind. Yet, my own family's fate gnawed at me, shrouded in silence due to communication blackouts.
Displaced by violence, my family fled to Deir al-Balah. Meanwhile, I was trapped in the besieged hospital, yearning to comfort them. Finally, we were allowed to leave, but the devastation was overwhelming.
My own home, and those of my loved ones, lay in ruins. The bombs had stolen not just bricks and mortar, but years of memories and treasured belongings. Suddenly, I bore the responsibility of caring for nearly 30 displaced souls, mostly children, with hope dwindling.
Now, winter's harsh grip adds another layer of suffering. Food, blankets, and basics are scarce, and the absence of our homes amplifies the pain.
The photo depicts my four-story home, the heart of our family life. Gone are the second and third floors, consumed by fire, while the southern portion stands bombed. 37 years of memories vanished in smoke.
Yet, we cling to hope. We dream of rebuilding, of restoring life to the walls that once echoed with laughter. We are a people who cherish peace and family, who yearn to rebuild on the ashes of war.
Your support can breathe life back into our shattered dreams. With your help, we can rise from the rubble, brick by brick, and reclaim a future filled with peace and the warmth of a home.
