Gaza: Help the Moharrams Rebuild

Donation protected
Hi friends, family, and other compassionate souls wanting to help... I've started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to support the Moharram family rebuild their home in northern Gaza, which was destroyed by the current Israeli offensive on Gaza. As Yousra put it (the 28 year old young woman, sister and daughter, who I became very close with after sharing a bedroom with her on several visits), they've lost everything and are now trying to survive in UN shelters along with countless others and horrible conditions. The money raised will go towards rebuilding their beloved home, which housed multiple generations of the family under one roof. I've included pictures throughout of the various family members displaced by this destruction to their home.

For those of you who do not know me well, I focused my PhD dissertation on the impact of the Israeli occupation/political violence on intimate partner violence in Gaza. During data collection, I visited Gaza three times and spent up to 4 months at a time there. While there, I lived primarily with the Moharram family, who were proud and loving, and treated me as family immediately. Upon arriving at their doorstep day one, Mohammed, the father, told me that I would be his "fifth daughter". I was always given seconds at meals (despite my refusals), and taken along on all family outings and gatherings. I was never left alone, even the few times I tried, sheepishly, to get a moment to myself. I have remained close with Yousra and her family since my visits, and they have never asked me for anything. Until last week. I can't imagine the humility it took for Mohammed, the patriarch of the family, to ask me for help, but he reached out asking if I might start a donation fund.

There is an overwhelming amount of need in Gaza right now, and horrific videos and photos of unimaginable suffering surface everyday. I don't blame you if you'd rather donate to an organization that might reach more people, especially not having the intimate connection with this family that I have. But if this moves you, they would appreciate any amount you were able to contribute. I was asked to help and I cannot do otherwise, after the way this family cared for me while in Gaza - hence this campaign. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'm more than happy to explain anything further!
