Huit mois après un élan de solidarité exceptionnel qui nous a permis de financer l’année universitaire 2025-2026 de 15 étudiant·es en médecine palestiniens en Égypte, leur situation se détériore et les frais de scolarité grimpent toujours plus.

A travers l’association Rizoma, nous faisons appel aux citoyen·nes, entreprises, institutions, organisateurs d’événements culturels, responsables politiques pour ce nouvel appel aux dons et souhaitons pérenniser le soutien financier de ces 15 étudiant·es avec qui nous sommes en lien étroit depuis nos différents voyages en Égypte. « Étudier c’est survivre, apprendre c’est résister ».

Ce sont avec ces mots que Moaz, Dana et Laith nous ont accueillis au sein de leurs universités en novembre dernier, suite à la première campagne de mobilisation pour financer leurs années universitaires 2025-2026.

Malgré les difficultés du quotidien, ce sont des rires et de franches accolades qui ont habillés chacune de nos rencontres en Égypte avec ces 15 étudiant·es.

L’exil en Égypte n’a pourtant rien d’une accalmie dans le quotidien de ces soignants en devenir. Les frais d’inscriptions annuels au sein des facultés égyptiennes s’élèvent à 3 000$ pour un étudiant Palestinien quand ils sont fixés à 50$ pour un étudiant Égyptien ou 600$ pour un étudiant Soudanais. Les loyers sont exorbitants et les colocations impératives : les étudiants de Mansoura sont actuellement logés à 4 dans le même studio. La vie est chère, jusqu’à 300$ par mois. Et les Palestiniens en exil sont ostracisés, partout, tout le temps, surtout en Égypte.

Alors, malgré ce quotidien bien noir et malgré la culpabilité de « coûter bien trop cher à nos familles restées sous les tentes de Gaza », vous pourrez découvrir dans ces portraits leur courage, leurs rêves, leurs espoirs.

Moaz et Laith étudient à Mansoura et débutent cette année leur internat. C'est avec de francs sourires et une petite bouteille d'huile d'olive de Palestine qu'ils nous reçoivent dans les jardins de l'université de Mansoura. Pour Moaz, « rencontrer un médecin français qui vient leur apporter son soutien est un grand honneur » et il espère « pouvoir aider d'autres étudiants en retour une fois son diplôme passé ». Laith et Moaz n'ont qu'un seul projet, « devenir neurochirurgien, à Gaza ». Malgré le système de soins mis a terre et une enclave dévastée, ils n'ont pas d'autres objectifs que de rentrer sur leur terre natale « que ce soit dans 2, 5 ou 10 ans ». De l'espoir donc, un partage profond des valeurs de la médecine d'Hippocrate mais aussi, avec beaucoup de dignité et de pudeur, la triste réalité « de ne plus voir leur famille, de ne pouvoir rentrer à Gaza et de ne les avoir au téléphone que quelques minutes par semaine ». Ils souffrent du syndrome du survivant, ou celui qui culpabilise « d'être en vie quand dix personnes de ma famille sont morts sous les bombes », de « se nourrir quand ma mère ne trouve pas de quoi nourrir mes deux jeunes sœurs », « d'étudier quand eux survivent ». Mais l'espoir et la détermination sont là et pour la deuxième fois de l'année le duo décroche les premières places de leur promotion aux examens de fin d'année.

Malak a 21 ans et suit son parcours universitaire au Caire : « Je rêvais de devenir dentiste. J'ai débuté ma première année d’Odontologie mais les frais de scolarité en Égypte devenaient impossibles à payer pour ma famille restée à Gaza et ce malgré les actions de solidarité des Palestiniens en Égypte et des bénévoles d'associations musulmanes de quartier ». Malak a donc dû abandonner son rêve mais « veut continuer à soigner les autres ». Elle s'est donc inscrite en première année de Pharmacie au sein de l'Université de Palestine et suit ses cours en ligne depuis Le Caire, « bien moins chers que les cours en présentiel lorsque j'étudiais en dentaire ». Son objectif ? « Revenir auprès des miens à Gaza et ouvrir une pharmacie ».

Au cours des derniers mois, Rizoma a été sollicitée pour venir en aide à 3 nouvelles étudiantes : Lamis, Amira et Nour. Lamis a obtenu un MBA à l’Université Al Aqsa de Gaza et Amira son diplôme de Pharmacienne. Avec le soutien de Rizoma, ces deux étudiantes ont ensuite commencé à travailler pour aider leurs familles à Gaza, sans revenus et sous la tente. Nour est en 5ème année de médecine. Elle espère pouvoir après l’internat se spécialiser en gynécologie.

« … Je m’appelle Amira , j’ai 24 ans et suis originaire du quartier Zeitoun à Gaza. J’ai étudié pendant 5 ans en Faculté de Pharmacie puis ai effectué une année complète de stage dans des hôpitaux et des pharmacies ici en Égypte. Merci beaucoup pour tout ce que vous avez fait. Grâce à vous, j'ai reçu 1 300 dollars. Je ne peux pas décrire à quel point je suis reconnaissante et remercie tous ceux qui ont contribué à m'aider, je ne l'oublierai pas tant que je serai en vie. Vous avez aussi beaucoup aidé ma famille en leur apportant l’assurance de la poursuite de mes études ».

Lamis a 23 ans, elle vient de Gaza-ville :

« Je vous écris pour exprimer ma plus profonde gratitude et ma sincère reconnaissance pour votre soutien, qui a eu un impact profond et direct sur ma vie et la vie des membres de ma famille. Votre aimable contribution de 1 500 dollars pour les frais de scolarité a été bien plus qu’une simple aide financière : c’était une « bouée de sauvetage » et un message d’espoir qui a restauré notre confiance dans la réalisation de nos rêves malgré les circonstances difficiles. Grâce à votre générosité, j’ai officiellement obtenu mon diplôme universitaire en Business Administration (programme d’anglais), marquant la première étape de mon parcours universitaire. L’impact de votre gentillesse ne s’est pas arrêté avec moi ; cela s’est étendu à mes sœurs en leur permettant de poursuivre leurs études universitaires en sciences (infirmière et conseillère psychologique). Cela signifie que vous avez non seulement soutenu un individu, mais vous avez assuré l’avenir éducatif de toute une famille aspirant à servir sa communauté et son peuple. Vous nous avez donné plus que de simples fonds ; vous nous avez offert un « avenir ». Ce geste va rester à jamais une dette de gratitude et un souvenir précieux. Avec tous nos remerciements et notre reconnaissance à la Fondation Rizoma pour avoir « fabriqué de l’espoir » ».

Lamis a obtenu entre temps une réduction de ses frais de scolarité et une partie de l’argent envoyé à été utilisé pour payer les impayés des frais de scolarité de ses 2 sœurs.

« Je suis Nour… Étudiante en 5ème année de médecine. J’avais accumulé des retards dans le paiement des frais de scolarité et l’association Rizoma a eu la générosité de me fournir une assistance financière pour couvrir une partie de mes impayés. Ma famille et moi sommes profondément reconnaissants pour votre soutien continu et sa solidarité avec les étudiants palestiniens. Nous espérons toujours être à la hauteur de cette responsabilité et de cette attente ».

Alors aidons ces futurs soignants, véritables lueurs d’espoir pour leur famille et leur peuple !

Eight months after an extraordinary outpouring of solidarity enabled us to fund the 2025–2026 academic year for 15 Palestinian medical students in Egypt, their situation is deteriorating, and tuition fees continue to rise.

Through the Rizoma association, we are reaching out to citizens, businesses, institutions, cultural event organizers, and policymakers with this new appeal for donations. We aim to secure long-term financial support for these 15 students, with whom we have maintained close ties since our various trips to Egypt. Let’s help them continue their studies!

"To study is to survive; to learn is to resist."

These were the words with which Moaz, Dana, and Laith welcomed us to their universities last November, following the initial fundraising campaign for their 2025–2026 academic years.

Despite the hardships of daily life, laughter and warm embraces defined every one of our meetings in Egypt with these 15 students.

Yet, exile in Egypt offers no respite in the daily lives of these aspiring healthcare professionals. Annual tuition fees at Egyptian universities stand at $3,000 for a Palestinian student, compared to $50 for an Egyptian student or $600 for a Sudanese student. Rents are exorbitant, making shared accommodation a necessity; students in Mansoura are currently living four to a single studio apartment. The cost of living is high—up to $300 a month. Furthermore, Palestinians in exile face ostracism everywhere and at all times, especially in Egypt.

And so, despite this bleak reality and the guilt of "costing far too much to our families back in the tents of Gaza," you will discover their courage, dreams, and hopes in these profiles.

Moaz and Laith are studying in Mansoura and are beginning their internships this year. They welcomed us to the Mansoura University gardens with genuine smiles and a small bottle of Palestinian olive oil. For Moaz, "meeting a French doctor who has come to offer support is a great honor," and he hopes to "be able to help other students in return once I graduate." Laith and Moaz share a single goal: "to become neurosurgeons—in Gaza." Despite a shattered healthcare system and a devastated homeland, their only goal is to return to their native land—"whether in two, five, or ten years." There is hope, then, and a deep commitment to Hippocratic medical values, but also—borne with great dignity and quiet reserve—the grim reality of "not seeing their families, being unable to return to Gaza, and speaking to them on the phone for only a few minutes a week." They suffer from survivor's guilt—the feeling of being "alive when ten members of my family died under the bombs," of "eating when my mother cannot find food for my two young sisters," or of "studying while they are just trying to survive." Yet hope and determination remain; for the second time this year, the pair have topped their class in the year-end exams.

Malak, 21, is pursuing her university studies in Cairo: "I dreamed of becoming a dentist. I started my first year of dentistry, but the tuition fees in Egypt became impossible for my family back in Gaza to afford—despite solidarity efforts by Palestinians in Egypt and volunteers from local Muslim associations." Malak had to give up that dream but "wants to continue caring for others." She has therefore enrolled in the first year of Pharmacy at the University of Palestine and is taking her classes online from Cairo—"far cheaper than the in-person classes when I was studying dentistry." Her goal? "To return to my loved ones in Gaza and open a pharmacy."

Over the past few months, Rizoma has been asked to assist three new students: Lamis, Amira, and Nour. Lamis earned an MBA from Al-Aqsa University in Gaza, and Amira qualified as a pharmacist. With Rizoma’s support, both students began looking for work to help their families in Gaza, who are currently living in tents with no income. Nour is in her fifth year of medical school; she hopes to specialize in gynecology after completing her internship.

“… My name is Amira; I am 24 years old and originally from the Zeitoun neighborhood in Gaza. I studied at the Faculty of Pharmacy for five years and then completed a full year of practical training in hospitals and pharmacies here in Egypt. Thank you so much for everything you have done. Thanks to you, I received $1,300. I cannot describe how grateful I am, and I thank everyone who contributed to helping me; I will never forget it as long as I live. You have also greatly helped my family by giving them the assurance that I can continue my studies.” Lamis is 23 years old and comes from Gaza City: "I am writing to express my deepest gratitude and sincere appreciation for your support, which has had a profound and direct impact on my life and the lives of my family members. Your kind contribution of $1,500 toward tuition fees was far more than just financial aid; it was a 'lifeline' and a message of hope that restored our belief in achieving our dreams despite difficult circumstances. Thanks to your generosity, I have officially graduated with a university degree in Business Administration (English-language program), marking the first milestone in my academic journey. The impact of your kindness did not stop with me; it extended to my sisters, enabling them to pursue their university studies in the sciences (nursing and psychological counseling). This means you have not only supported an individual but have secured the educational future of an entire family aspiring to serve its community and its people. You gave us more than just funds; you gave us a 'future.' This gesture will forever remain a debt of gratitude and a cherished memory. With all our thanks and appreciation to the Rizoma Foundation for 'creating hope.'" In the meantime, Lamis secured a reduction in her tuition fees, and a portion of the funds sent was used to pay off her two sisters' outstanding tuition balances.

"I am Nour... a fifth-year medical student. I had fallen behind on my tuition payments, and the Rizoma Association generously provided financial assistance to cover a portion of my outstanding balance. My family and I are deeply grateful for your ongoing support and solidarity with Palestinian students. We always hope to live up to this responsibility and expectation."

بعد ثمانية أشهر من موجة تضامن استثنائية مكّنتنا من تمويل السنة الجامعية 2025-2026 لخمسة عشر طالبًا وطالبةً فلسطينيين في كليات الطب ممن لجؤوا إلى مصر، تزداد أوضاعهم صعوبةً وتواصل الرسوم الدراسية ارتفاعها.

ومن خلال جمعية ريزوما، نتوجه بنداء جديد إلى المواطنين والمواطنات، والشركات، والمؤسسات، ومنظمي الفعاليات الثقافية، والمسؤولين السياسيين، للمساهمة بالتبرعات. كما نطمح إلى ضمان استمرارية الدعم المالي لهؤلاء الطلبة الخمسة عشر الذين تربطنا بهم علاقة وثيقة من خلال رحلاتنا المتعددة إلى مصر. ساعدوهم على مواصلة دراستهم وتحقيق أحلامهم.

«الدراسة هي سبيل البقاء، والتعلّم هو شكل من أشكال المقاومة»

بهذه الكلمات استقبلنا معاذ ودانا وليث داخل جامعاتهم في شهر نوفمبر الماضي، بعد الحملة الأولى للتضامن التي أُطلقت لتمويل سنتهم الجامعية 2025-2026.

وعلى الرغم من صعوبات الحياة اليومية، فقد رافقت الضحكات الصادقة والعناق الحار كل لقاءاتنا مع هؤلاء الطلبة الخمسة عشر خلال زياراتنا المتعددة إلى مصر.

إلا أن اللجوء إلى مصر لا يعني بأي حال من الأحوال انتهاء المعاناة بالنسبة لهؤلاء الأطباء المستقبليين. فتكاليف التسجيل السنوية في الجامعات المصرية تبلغ نحو 3000 دولار أمريكي للطالب الفلسطيني، في حين لا تتجاوز 50 دولارًا للطالب المصري و600 دولار للطالب السوداني. كما أن الإيجارات باهظة للغاية، ما يفرض عليهم السكن المشترك؛ فطلاب المنصورة، على سبيل المثال، يعيش أربعة منهم حاليًا في شقة واحدة. وتصل تكاليف المعيشة إلى نحو 300 دولار شهريًا، فضلًا عن أن الفلسطينيين في المنفى يواجهون أشكالًا مختلفة من التهميش والعزلة، لا سيما في مصر.

ورغم هذا الواقع القاسي، ورغم شعورهم بالذنب لأنهم «يكلفون عائلاتهم التي ما زالت تعيش تحت خيام غزة أعباءً إضافية»، فإن قصصهم تكشف عن شجاعة استثنائية وأحلام كبيرة وأمل لا ينطفئ.

معاذ وليث: حلم العودة لخدمة غزة

يدرس معاذ وليث في جامعة المنصورة وبدآ هذا العام مرحلة التدريب التخصصي. استقبلانا بابتسامات عريضة وزجاجة صغيرة من زيت الزيتون الفلسطيني في حدائق الجامعة.

يقول معاذ:

«إن لقاء طبيب فرنسي جاء ليقدم لنا دعمه شرف كبير.»

ويأمل أن يتمكن يومًا ما من مساعدة طلاب آخرين بعد تخرجه.

أما حلمهما المشترك فهو واحد لا يتغير: أن يصبحا جراحي أعصاب في غزة. وعلى الرغم من الدمار الذي أصاب القطاع الصحي، لا يتصوران مستقبلهما بعيدًا عن وطنهما.

ويقولان:

«سنعود إلى أرضنا، سواء كان ذلك بعد سنتين أو خمس سنوات أو عشر سنوات.»

لكن خلف هذا الأمل تختبئ معاناة عميقة؛ فهما لا يريان عائلتيهما، ولا يستطيعان العودة إلى غزة، ولا يتواصلان مع أقاربهما إلا لدقائق معدودة كل أسبوع. ويعانيان مما يُعرف بـ«متلازمة الناجي»، ذلك الشعور المؤلم بالذنب لأنهما ما زالا على قيد الحياة بينما فقدا أفرادًا من عائلتيهما تحت القصف، ولأنهما يدرسان بينما يكافح أحباؤهما من أجل البقاء.

ومع ذلك، فإن الأمل والعزيمة ما زالا حاضرين بقوة؛ فقد حصل معاذ وليث، وللمرة الثانية خلال العام نفسه، على المراتب الأولى في امتحانات نهاية السنة الدراسية.

ملك: حلم تغيّر لكنه لم ينطفئ

أما ملك، البالغة من العمر 21 عامًا، فتتابع دراستها في القاهرة.

تقول:

«كنت أحلم بأن أصبح طبيبة أسنان.»

وقد بدأت بالفعل دراسة طب الأسنان، لكن الرسوم الدراسية أصبحت فوق طاقة عائلتها التي بقيت في غزة، رغم جهود التضامن المختلفة.

اضطرت ملك إلى التخلي عن حلمها الأول، لكنها لم تتخلَّ عن رغبتها في خدمة الآخرين. لذلك التحقت بالسنة الأولى في كلية الصيدلة بجامعة فلسطين وتتابع دراستها عن بُعد من القاهرة، لأن تكاليفها أقل بكثير.

أما حلمها اليوم فهو:

«العودة إلى غزة وافتتاح صيدلية لخدمة أهلي.»

لميس وأميرة ونور: قصص أمل وصمود

خلال الأشهر الماضية، تلقت جمعية ريزوما طلبات لمساعدة ثلاث طالبات أخريات: لميس وأميرة ونور.

حصلت لميس على درجة في إدارة الأعمال من جامعة الأقصى في غزة، بينما نالت أميرة شهادة الصيدلة. وبفضل دعم ريزوما، تمكنتا من بدء البحث عن عمل لمساندة عائلتيهما اللتين تعيشان بلا دخل وتحت الخيام في غزة.

أما نور فهي طالبة في السنة الخامسة من كلية الطب، وتأمل بعد إنهاء دراستها أن تتخصص في أمراض النساء والتوليد.

شهادة أميرة

«أنا أميرة، أبلغ من العمر 24 عامًا ومن حي الزيتون في غزة. درست الصيدلة لمدة خمس سنوات ثم أمضيت عامًا كاملًا في التدريب داخل المستشفيات والصيدليات في مصر. شكرًا جزيلًا لكم على كل ما قدمتموه. بفضلكم تلقيت 1300 دولار. لا أستطيع وصف مدى امتناني لكل من ساهم في مساعدتي، ولن أنسى ذلك ما حييت. كما منحتم عائلتي الطمأنينة بأنني سأتمكن من مواصلة دراستي.»

شهادة لميس

«أتقدم إليكم بأعمق مشاعر الشكر والامتنان لدعمكم الذي ترك أثرًا مباشرًا وعميقًا في حياتي وحياة أفراد أسرتي. لقد كانت مساهمتكم البالغة 1500 دولار أكثر من مجرد مساعدة مالية؛ لقد كانت طوق نجاة ورسالة أمل أعادت إلينا الثقة بإمكانية تحقيق أحلامنا رغم الظروف الصعبة. بفضل كرمكم حصلت رسميًا على شهادة إدارة الأعمال، وتمكنت أختاي أيضًا من مواصلة دراستهما الجامعية في التمريض والإرشاد النفسي. لقد منحتمونا أكثر من المال؛ لقد منحتمونا مستقبلًا.»

وقد حصلت لميس لاحقًا على تخفيض في رسومها الدراسية، مما سمح باستخدام جزء من المبلغ المقدم لسداد المتأخرات الدراسية لشقيقتيها.

شهادة نور

«أنا نور، طالبة في السنة الخامسة من الطب. كانت لدي متأخرات في سداد الرسوم الدراسية، وقد تكرمت جمعية ريزوما بتقديم دعم مالي ساعدني على تغطية جزء منها. أنا وعائلتي ممتنون للغاية لدعمكم المستمر وتضامنكم مع الطلبة الفلسطينيين. ونأمل أن نكون على قدر هذه الثقة والمسؤولية.»

فلنساعدهم على مواصلة الطريق

هؤلاء الطلبة ليسوا مجرد مستفيدين من منحة دراسية، بل هم أطباء وصيادلة وممرضون وقادة المستقبل. إنهم يمثلون شعلة أمل لعائلاتهم، ولمجتمعهم، ولشعبهم الذي يواصل الصمود رغم كل الصعوبات.

ساهموا معنا في تمكينهم من مواصلة دراستهم، لأن دعم تعليمهم اليوم هو استثمار في مستقبل الرعاية الصحية والإنسانية والأمل.
