In December 2023, Gay received a diagnosis that would change her life forever. Two years prior, she had begun to notice a gradual loss of mobility in her feet and legs. What followed was a long and challenging journey of medical tests and uncertainties, as Gay and her loved ones struggled to understand the changes happening in her body.
With each passing month, the medical bills piled up, adding to the financial strain. Despite the physical limitations creeping in, Gay's spirit remained unbroken. She faced each day with a determination to live life to the fullest, even as simple tasks like standing or walking became increasingly difficult.
Finally, in December 2023, the answers came. Gay was diagnosed with ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that will eventually rob her of her ability to move, speak, and even breathe. But Gay refuses to let the diagnosis define her. Instead, she sees it as a new chapter in her life, one that would require her to make significant changes to her daily routine and living environment.
With the help of her friends and family, as well as the support of the ALS Association, Gay will need to begin to make the necessary accommodations. Her home needs to be transformed into a space that will accommodate her new motor-powered wheelchair, with ramps, restroom adaptations, backyard modifications, and widening doorways to make it easier for her to move around.
Gay's need for care will increase here very soon. Her family members are her main caretakers, providing her with the love and support she needs. However, as Gay's condition continues to progress, the need for professional caretakers will be imminent. This will be another added expense for Gay and her family.
Through it all, Gay has remained a beacon of strength and resilience. Her story is not just one of struggle, but of triumph over adversity. This journey is all still very new for Gay and her family. All your support and prayers are greatly appreciated.
