Support Gayle’s Quest to Conquer Myeloma

My name is Heather and I’m fundraising for my mom, Gayle, who has been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma cancer.

Multiple Myeloma is a form of blood cancer that involves fast growing abnormal plasma cells in her bone marrow, affecting her body’s ability to make healthy blood cells, which can negatively affect different parts of the body such as the bones and kidneys. This cancer cannot be cured and she will need to undergo undergo stem cell transplants and be on chemo for the rest of her life. This diagnosis has been understandably shocking and emotionally difficult for my mom, who just celebrated her 60th birthday this year and was starting to look forward to her retirement in a few years. While she strives to stay strong and maintain a brave face, I know that underneath that she is often consumed by anxiety about her future.

While thankfully most of her medical costs are covered through her provincial health care, she is not able to work and her income has been significantly reduced to 66% of what she was earning. This is going to make it very difficult to afford her monthly expenses going forward, especially with the increased cost of living. While her immediate family is trying the best we can to help, we sadly cannot do enough.

My mom has worked hard all her life, being a single parent to two kids and working full time jobs until now. She has always been there for her friends and family through the tough times, by loving us and showing us how to keep fighting. Now that she is faced with the fight of her life, we are asking for help to show up for her, so that she can focus on getting better without having to worry about paying the bills.
