My beautiful mother Gayl was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in October 2019 and has endured months in the hospital, two rounds of aggressive chemotherapy, and a dozen painful bone marrow biopsies.
The next step is a bone marrow transplant which will be an undertaking unlike anything my family has faced before. While the transplant itself will be intense and painful, the recovery is the most difficult part. This will be the most taxing leg of the journey financially and we're trying to figure out how we're going to get through it.
Gayl is losing her apartment, most of her income, and is not able to work. The bills are piling up and we're at the point where we need to ask others for help. Anything you can give will help our family immensely.
Other ways you can help those fighting Leukemia include donating platelets and signing up with Be The Match. I was astounded at how many bags of platelets my mom needed during chemo. And finding a bone marrow donor is not easy. It's rare for family members to be compatible and recipients usually rely on the generosity of selfless anonymous donors.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
With love and gratitude,
The Rische family
