Gayatri's Arangetram 2022

Hi everyone!

My name is Gayatri and I am a Bharatanatyam (Indian classical dance) dancer trained at the Sangam Academy in Milan (Italy). After studying for 10 years between London and Milan, on 14 September 2022, I will finally have the opportunity to debut (Arengetram) in Chennai (India). I will be guided by my teacher Lucrezia Maniscotti, who is a student of Adyar K. Lakshman Sir.

The Arangetram is a dancer’s official debut. During the show, they perform all the traditional pieces of the Bharatanatyam dance with live music for the first time. Teachers and artists from a variety of schools are invited to the event, to witness the dancer’s access to the dance community. Therefore, the Arangetram is a fundamental rite of passage but also the beginning of a professional path for the dancer.

My Arangetram will take place in a temple, with my teacher’s blessing and lots of guests from the dancers' community. This rite means for me not only paying off my sacrifices but also a new beginning in the world of dancing, where I feel that I belong. I still have a long way ahead of me: I will follow my teachers and I will be held up by my passion and dedication.

I have always dreamed about being able to debut in India, and since my dream is becoming reality, this moment feels particularly meaningful and special for me. This style of dancing was born in India and Chennai is the core city for this performing art. Having this opportunity fills me with excitement, pride, and also responsibility.

However, all the above is very expensive.

With this campaign, I would like to ask for your support to pay for the organisation of my special night. Additionally, I will be able to provide a fair reward for the artists and professionals inevitably involved.

My Arengetram will take place on 14 September in the Kapaleeshwarar Temple, where I will be accompanied by a traditional orchestra. Additionally, a cameraman specialised in dance performances will film the show.

I thank from the bottom of my heart all the people who will help me. I will be glad to share the video of the performance to all the donors.

Sono Gayatri e sono una danzatrice di Bharatanatyam dell'Accademia Sangam di Milano. Dopo oltre 10 anni di studio fra Milano e Londra finalmente il 14 settembre avrò l'opportunità di fare il mio debutto (Arangetram) a Chennai, in India, sotto la guida della mia maestra Lucrezia Maniscotti, allieva di Adyar K. Lakshman Sir.

L' Arangetram è il debutto ufficiale di una danzatrice: per la prima volta vengono danzati in unico spettacolo tutti i pezzi tradizionali della danza Bharatanatyam (danza classica Indiana) con la musica dal vivo e vengono invitati maestri e artisti di diverse scuole a testimoniare una sorta di ingresso nella comunità della danza. L' Arangetram è pertanto un rito di passaggio fondamentale ma anche l'inizio di un percorso professionale all'interno della danza.

Il mio Arangetram si svolgerà in un tempio, con la benedizione della mia insegnante e di tutti i presenti. Per me sarà il coronamento di tanti sacrifici e allo stesso tempo un nuovo inizio nel mondo della danza, a cui sento di appartenere e in cui ho ancora tanta strada da fare, sulle orme dei miei maestri e sostenuta dalla mia profonda passione e dedizione.

Ho sempre sognato di poter fare il mio debutto in India e poter vivere questo momento ha un significato molto speciale. L'india è il luogo in cui è nato e si è diffuso questo stile di danza e Chennai è la città in cui la mia insegnante Lucrezia si è formata. Avere questa opportunità mi riempie di emozione, orgoglio e anche responabilità.

Tutto questo però ha dei costi elevati. Con questa campagna vorrei chiedere il vostro supporto e il vostro aiuto per poter sostenere i costi dell'organizzazione della serata e restituire un compenso adeguato ai tanti artisti e professionisti inevitabilmente coinvolti.

L'Arangetram si terrà il 14 settempre all'interno del tempio Kapaleeshwarar a Chennai dove sarò accompagnata dal vivo dall’orchestra tradizionale. Lo spettacolo verrà ripreso da un video maker specializzato in spettacoli di danza.
