Gavyn is the sweet 2 1/2 year old son of my nephew, Garrett Craven.  

 

Gavyn’s weekend took a turn for the worst after a seemingly harmless fall from the bed. Initially he seemed ok, but after noticing his balance seemed to be off, his parents decided to take him to the ER for  a CT scan. 

The results were far worse than they could have imagined. Rather than a brain injury, the CT scan revealed a tumor in his brain the size of a baseball. 

 

Gavyn was immediately transferred to Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, where he underwent a long 6 hour surgery to extract the tumor. Surgeons we able to remove about 95% of it, but unfortunately pathology showed that the tumor was cancerous. Gavyn underwent another surgery this afternoon to have a shunt placed, which will alleviate the pressure and fluid from his brain. 

Gavyn is currently in the ICU with his parents who have not left his side. They are waiting for the oncologist to determine their next steps, while praying for healing and a glimpse of good news. 

 

As you can imagine, this has been an

extremely heartbreaking time for his parents. With Garrett’s permission, I have created this fundraiser in an attempt to help cover their basic needs, such as food, rent, gas etc, as they have both been unable to work during this crisis. And with the uncertainty that lies ahead, they will likely miss many more days of work.
