OUR STORY:
Gavrielle (Gavi) is my beautiful 18 year old daugher who has had Type 1 Diabetes since the age of 2.
She is a young lady, full of life and love for others and the ability to bring warmth to any room. As a young artist, she creates art that would simply astound you! Some of the art she has done are drawings of The Eiffel Tower, lifelike renderings of dragons and painted portraits of her dear friends. Gavi never uses her talent to bring attention to her, but only to bring joy to others. She has personally created custom pieces for her friends of all ages, including ones who consider her their "adopted" granddaughter.
Sketch by Gavi
For all these years, although it's been a struggle, I have been able to provide medical care and Diabetic supplies, including an insulin pump. However, I was laid off and all her medical benefits are lost as of April 1, 2017. After reaching out to many agencies and outside sources, we have found that there is absolutely nothing available to us to provide insulin pumps or continuous glucose monitors. Ironically, she was scheduled to receive a continuous glucose monitor and an updated insulin pump the beginning of April. We have been waiting for this for many months. It is crucial to her well-being and is desperately needed.

Her current insulin pump is unreliable, no longer safe for her, and is actually VERY dangerous, as it continually stops and does not deliver the insulin when needed. This has resulted in "high" blood sugars and creating, not only a great risk for many future diabetic complications, but even now she has many days when her blood sugars impact her daily activities. Also, because she does not have the continuous glucose monitor, her blood sugar levels will drop critically low. Her current pump was never designed to "shut off" when her blood sugar levels are low but the one we were scheduled to get for her does! The pump and the continuous glucose monitor will significantly improve her overall bloodsugar levels and help her to live a happy life.
My daughter is 18 years old. She wants her independence and to pursue her talents and goals "fear" free. To hear her tell me that she is "afraid" to even take a nap because her blood sugar level may drop breaks my heart.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
We thank everyone for their support thus far. Gavi needs the updated insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor asap. Please contribute to health and future. No amount is too small! We thank you for your support.
