Gavin's Legacy Project for Families with Cancer
Donation protected
On April 12, 2018, Gavin Glueck, his family and friends, learned that he had Ewing’s Sarcoma, an aggressive childhood bone cancer that changed the course of this active, hockey-loving, video-gaming 11-year-old’s life forever. Over the next 16 months, there were countless doctor’s appointments, hospital stays, IVs, operations, and ups and downs as he bravely battled his disease with his family and friends by his side. With each step, Gavin and his loved ones gained vital knowledge, hacks, lessons and understanding that every family going through cancer deserves to make their experience a little bit easier.
Even while Gavin was struggling with cancer himself, he was passionate about using his experience with cancer to help others. In fact, he insisted on complete openness and authenticity, detailed through a well-read PostHope blog, about the progression of his illness and each lesson they gained along the way. From mental skills needed to help get through treatment, to finding joy in the midst of trauma, to teaching people how to love you at the end- Gavin and his family provided vital insights and wisdom that will be a great comfort and help to other families going through similar experiences.
In his last weeks, at the wise age of 13-years-old, Gavin asked that the blog be turned into a book so others could learn from what he went through- so that his life, and his experience gained meaning and could help others. The title of his book was his idea: Gavin's Guide to Winning When It Really Matters.
This fundraiser will pay for editing, printing, distribution, travel, retreats, additional lessons on recovery from loss, and all other expenses related to the creation and dissemination of this book created for families of kids with cancer and other chronic illnesses that result in them going through hospital stays and hospice experiences. We are endlessly grateful for your support in making Gavin's dream a reality and helping other families who are on their cancer journey learn from the life and wisdom of Gavin and his family. Please contribute what you can- any amount will help to bring this legacy project to fruition.
