Twenty-six days spent in ER trying to find the help that Gavin needed. Unfortunately, the system is overwhelmed with cases just like Gavin's. But what if there was another way that we could offer Gavin and the Sands family the support they needed?
Gavin is a physically healthy teenager. He is intelligent, funny, loves video games and talking about outer space. He has also struggled with what appears to be ADHD, OCD, ASD, ODD and list of other acronyms. This is something that Gavin's family has put time, money, and effort into trying to figure out. There are so few resources out there to help identify and treat complex challenges in children like Gavin.
This is where the Amen Clinics come in. Traditional psychiatry rarely looks at the organ it treats; the brain. By seeking treatment at Amen, the Sands will be able to gather information about Gavin that they haven't been able to get before. The specialized program, includes brain scans and consultations, further testing where necessary, treatments plans and follow-up appointments. The program require in-person visits at the Amen Clinic in Chicago, where the costs are not covered by health insurance. Although the Sands are looking into every possible solutions, we thought we could alleviate some of the stress that this situation has placed upon all of them. Therefore, these funds from GoFundme will be used for the cost of the brain consultations, brain scans, treatment, and follow-up.
