Gavin Middle School's New Robotics Team

Gavin South Middle School has formed a Robotics Team!

The CYBER TIGERS are headed to their first-ever VEX Robotics Competition.

This exciting program extends beyond the classroom to an after-school course that is open to 5th-8th grade students who are interested in coding, engineering, robotics, & friendly competition. We are the only middle school registered for the November 4th competition at CLC among a sea of High School teams!

WHY VEX?

VEX is the largest robotics program for middle and high school teams with over 20,000 teams in over 45 countries. VEX is a STEM focused program that offers students opportunities to work as a team to solve problems and become critical thinkers.

VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) is a high-level STEM program that offers students a competitive challenge where students design, build, and program a robot to accomplish different tasks. This year’s game is called “Over Under”, which tasks teams to form alliances to outscore their opponents in head-to-head matches. Using acorn-shaped tri-balls to score points, teams compete in a 15-second autonomous period followed by a 1-minute, 45-second driver-controlled period. The goal is to attain a higher score than the opposing alliance and by elevating the robot on a measured vertical pole at the end of the match.

BUDGET

In order to operate & compete, we need help from generous individuals and businesses like yours! An average team will spend $3000 in its inaugural year to pay for the competition field set, the VEX robot kit, tools & supplies, & competition registration fees.
