The Gavin Fund

Gavin, an active and smart 14 year old boy, was tragically injured this past weekend. His parents and brothers are devastated and heart broken over this unimaginable tragedy. Gavin suffered an accidental gunshot to the head and underwent emergency brain surgery, where they removed a portion of his skull to allow his brain to swell. He is on life support and is in critical condition at St. Louis Children's Hospital.

His overall prognosis is unknown, but in best case, he will need weeks of intensive care and months of therapy to relearn simple functions. His father is my childhood friend and a union painter by trade. He has sacrificed to  provide everything for his children, including a private school education, which he felt was important. Gavin was in 8th grade at St. Monica's Catholic School in Creve Coeur, where he got good grades and had many friends.

His parents have been living out of the hospital since the injury and have been by Gavin's side every minute. They are fortunate to have good medical insurance, but their other financial needs will soon rapidly accumulate.

Any contribution you can make would help allow their family to focus on Gavin's health and hopefully limit the strain and difficulties they will have over medical expenses and lost time at work.
