Gavin (8) was recently diagnosed with cancer in the form of a rare type of soft tissue Sarcoma. For a more detailed overview of his diagnosis, Gavin's dad, Kevin, has created a Caring Bridge site at https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/gavingreszler.
Understandably, this entire situation was unexpected and has blindsided Gavin's entire family. However, there is hope in so many aspects of Gavin's cancer journey. His family has hope in their faith in God, who has his arms wrapped around them. There is hope in the countless friends, co-workers, and others in the community who have already stepped up to ask how to help. And, there is hope in the fact that Gavin was able to be seen and diagnosed relatively early. As Kevin put it, Gavin's family feels fortunate to live in an area of the country where some of the best medical care is available.
While this entire situation is so fresh, and Gavin is just beginning treatment, his family has not fully identified areas of need. We are so thankful for the many who have already contributed food, gift cards, monetary gifts, etc. Given the numerous and ongoing trips back and forth to DC and Rockville, we thought this fundraiser would help offset some of those costs as well as help the family as other expenses present themselves.
Finally, the biggest gift being asked for is continued prayers for Gavin and his family. First and foremost, prayers for the healing of Gavin's cancer and for relief of pain and discomfort faced as side effects of his treatments. Secondly, for Gavin's family for strength, peace, and comfort as they support Gavin. This is a difficult time but with the hope in Jesus that he is in control we have hope for Gavin. While we don't necessarily know how, we know God will use Gavin's story for good.
Thank you for considering giving and supporting Gavin and his family!
