Hello all,
It’s my birthday once again, and with it comes the joy of preparing to return to the Nath Ashram and the Cow shelter where I raised funds last year. I’m deeply grateful we were able to raise so much last year!
The generous support helped care for the cows throughout the year and funded important improvements to their accommodation, making their lives more comfortable and dignified.
Many people ask me, “Why do cows need shelter in India aren’t they considered holy?” While cows are revered in Indian culture, the ancient, symbiotic relationship between humans and cows is increasingly under threat. As society shifts away from spiritual traditions and toward Western-style consumerism, cows are often neglected. Many farmers now choose to raise buffalo instead, as they are cheaper and seen as more economically efficient. However, buffalo milk lacks many of the subtle healing and nourishing qualities traditionally associated with cow’s milk, which has long been used in yogic, Ayurvedic, and spiritual practices.
Also the Desi cow, native to India is often chose second to the jersey cow who produces more milk, so it is important to support these traditional practices of cow care!
Supporting the gaushala is about more than animal welfare, it’s about preserving a way of life rooted in compassion, balance, and reverence for nature. If you feel called to contribute this year, your donation will go directly toward the ongoing care of the cows, the new baby calf who has just been born!, and the continued development of their shelter.
Thank you, as always, for your love, generosity, and support. It means more than I can say.
With love,
Jacob
