Last weekend my sister, Gauranga, was finishing putting up Christmas lights when the ladder she was on slipped and she fell from the roof edge onto her concrete driveway. After the ambulance got her to the hospital, CT scans revealed that she fractured a vertebra in her spine, bones in her arm just above the wrist, broken her wrist and broken both heels.
She had a successful surgery Monday evening on her wrist. This morning, she was able to get herself out of bed and roll herself down the hallway in a wheelchair. An occupational therapist is helping her learn the safest ways to move about on her own and perform simple tasks such as getting dressed until the injuries heal well enough for her to function normally again but that's expected to be a month or more. We are hopeful that she will be able to come home in the next day or so after spending three nights in the hospital.
Understanding that this is a economically challenging time for many of us, we are trying to lighten the stress on her and her family by raising enough money to cover her deductible and costs not be picked up by insurance. As anyone who has had to receive medical attention lately knows, insurance often falls well short of taking care of medical costs. Any contribution you can make will be greatly appreciated and will go a long way to helping in her recovery.
If you are local to the Dallas area and want to assist in some other way, providing meals or gift cards for restaurants would be a huge help. We will be getting a meal train together when she gets home to keep her from having to cook for a while so that her healing can progress quickly.
