Gauker Family Fire Relief Fund
Donation protected
On December 28th, 2014 and March 30th, 2015 my family survived two separate fires, at two separate homes, displacing 7 total family members, 6 dogs and 2 cats. As a family, we have always survived and will continue to survive. However, these particular family members have endured so much in the last 3 months and have done nothing but give back to the community, support friends and family and spread their positivity to all they come in contact with. As a family, we will do whatever we can to help each other out. This gofundme page is just an extension of our family's spirit. Please continue to read my family's story. Whether you decide to donate, or not, please know that you are greatly appreciated by our family and that we send positive vibes and prayers to you and yours. God bless.
December 28th, 2014 was my Uncle Jim's birthday and also the our family holiday gathering. While everyone was catching up, enjoying good food and beverage and playing with the little ones, my Uncle Jim, Aunt Carol and Aunt Judy suddenly rushed out of the house. It did not take long for the 30 family members to realize something was wrong. We quickly heard the news. The home attached to the home my two aunts and my uncle shared was on fire. The house on fire was the end unit in a row of attached homes in the city. The home my aunts and uncle resided in, originally belonged to my uncles parents and was presumed to be on fire. Still inside were their 3 dogs.
I will spare you the devastating details, but what I will tell you is the outcome. My family members were safe and their dogs were eventually found safe, as well. The fire, smoke and water damaged their home immensely and ruined countless family heirlooms. Their neighbors were not so fortunate. They lost their lives that evening.
Currently my Aunt Carol, Aunt Judy, Uncle Jim and their 3 dogs have not returned to their home and it does not appear that will happen any time soon. They are temporarily living with my cousin Kim (daughter of my Aunt Carol), her husband David and their two children. Thank God for family.
Fast foward to today, March 30th, 2015. Around dinner time, I received a series of phone calls from various family members telling me that my cousin Kim's home was on fire. The house that had become a home to 7 people, 6 dogs and 2 cats was on fire. A house that was filled with contagious laughter, unconditional love and endless hope was yet again on fire. I do not know much, but here is what I do know. According to news reports, their home is damaged beyond repair, leaving them to rebuild everything they have worked so hard for.
We are blessed as a family because yet again no one was hurt. Thank God for that! However, my family has endured so much and all we want is to fix everything and make all the pain go away. Knowing we cannot do that and knowing that my family has a long road ahead of them, I ask for your donations. Any small donation will help my family worry less about providing so they can focus on rebuilding and healing.
Our family will survive the same way we always have... with laughter, grace and generosity. Please consider donating to this cause and God bless!
