Gathering Around Val
Donation protected
In December 2018, Val Scrivener was diagnosed with hairy cell leukaemia. The doctor said it was controllable but not curable. She was started on chemotherapy treatment that would last for at least a year.
Her situation has recently deteriorated and she is now in the Royal University hospital in Saskatoon having various tests to find the best way to treat her condition going forward. Because of her condition, she won’t be able to look after herself at her own home (where she lives by herself) once she is discharged from the hospital, so she will need to be transferred to a care home where she can get the care she needs. Getting a care home space will happen as soon as a place can be organized.
She will need some financial support to help her pay for the cost of living in a care home and for other medical needs like medications, a walker, etc. Having some funds from family and friends available for Val will greatly help relieve any worry and anxiety she has about being able to cover the cost of her post-hospital care.
Any ideas or suggestions about finding a care home would be greatly appreciated. Val has several close friends who have been active caregivers for her for more than half a year and this can be an overwhelming job so any help with care-giving and support in any and all ways would be welcomed.
