It did cross my mind about hosting a GoFundMe for this family, but with extra convincing from friends, here it is.
Today, I was in Moreno Valley and needed to get a bouquet for someone and found a small ma and pa floral shop called: "Angel Flowers & Gifts" (https://www.facebook.com/angelflowersmv ).
The owner, a gentleman, was helping us and he apologized that the bouquet might take a while to make. His wife wasn't there to work or help out, she’s in the hospital.
Turns out, the store was robbed last week and his wife was beaten and nearly raped by some 21-year-old. She’s been in the hospital since.
Bystanders drove past her screaming for help, and no one stopped.
Unbelievable.
I’m just lost for words. Horrified. Why do people feel compelled to do what they do? I’m sure this kid grew up in an awful upbringing, but damn it. Rape is inexcusable. Abuse is inexcusable. Looking the other way is also inexcusable.
I initially told him I only wanted to spend about $25 on the arrangement and he did such a nice job. More than I expected.
When checking out, I told him to charge me 10x the price instead. “No, I feel bad! You don’t have to.” I do have to. They have had this shop for almost 2 decades, and what happened was far from deserving.
The owner was here on his day off from his day job... I'm heartbroken yet inspired by his endurance and willingness to still run the shop. But this family deserves a break, time together, and time to recover.
Be good and do good. Go the extra damn mile if you can, and don’t turn a blind eye when someone needs help. This is the least I can do.
So here's a campaign. I'll bring all funds to the family.
