On Friday, January 6th, 2023, at approximately 1 am, Sheryll came home from celebrating her cousin’s birthday party.
Sheryll suddenly fell ill without warning and collapsed on her bathroom floor as she was getting ready to go to bed. First responders took her to the hospital and had to get emergency surgery for the devastating hemorrhagic stroke she had suffered. No one was prepared to hear the news that Sheryll was going to be in an induced coma and that only time would tell if Sheryll would pull through. The news of Sheryll being in the hospital in grave condition spread quickly within the Gateways Hospital Community. Many people had questions, How? When? Why? Many went to the hospital to wish her a fast and speedy recovery but unfortunately as time passed Sheryll was not waking up. All the medical tests confirmed everyone’s worst fear. Sheryll’s family faced a very difficult decision to take her off the ventilator and let her go peacefully to reunite with her mom and dad. Everyone that knows Sheryll knows that she would post on IG #seeyouinmydreams, #tiliseeyouagain, #pleasevisitmeinmydreamsagain, as it was the only way she could be with her parents.
Sheryll joined the Gateways family in May 2006. She first worked as a Mental Health Worker, then on as Unit Clerk, Quality Assistant and Treatment Plan Coordinator. In addition, throughout the years, Sheryll has coordinated and organized staff’s birthdays, baby showers and other milestone celebrations. She always took the lead to make sure that people felt and knew that they were special. Job positions and titles can be filled and replaced but there will never be another Sheryll.
Sheryll passed peacefully with her family and friends surrounding her as she made her journey on Wednesday evening February 1st, 2023. She will be forever missed by all who have had the blessing of knowing her.
Please help Sheryll Nery by donating to a GoFundMe to help towards her final resting place. We want our colleague, teammate, but especially our friend to be peacefully resting so she may forever dream…
